08:02 AM ET 09.19 | Would Joe Girardi really leave the Yankees to come to the Cubs? Would Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf allow Ozzie Guillen to say goodbye to the White Sox and hello to the Marlins? As many as 13 teams could open 2011 with new managers, including four (the Cubs, Diamondbacks, Marlins and Mariners) who are finishing 2010 under interim managers.

Can we please stop taking the hallucinogenic drugs and stop talking about Girardi going to the Cubs? I know Cubbies faithful would love it, but why would anyone ever want to manage there?

QUOTE(#8):

I am a Yankee for life and I just want to express to Joe why would you leave the best and most complete organization in all of professional sports and I mean bar none? You would have to be a moron. Given the fact the Joe knows 1st hand about class and winning as he is a product of this success and environment. If Joe does decide to leave this would truly be a remarkable and stupid transformation from success to a losing tradition. Most Yankee fans would truly be taken aback and astounded by this act. You would be talking about a classic dumb move of epic porportions. Lastly, the winning and classy tradition will continue here and I am certain that all of the dislike, hate and disdain for us will continue as is always the case when it comes to us. Haters get real and accept the fact of our excellence. It's a NY thing baby so chew on it.

There is a possibility this is posturing so Girardi can get more money. But, even though I'm not a Yankees fan, I agree 100% that making this move would be an example of stupidity of epic proportions. I think the headline of this hypothetical move would be fodder for failblog.org.

New ownership, going back home and the chance to do something that would make him immortal in Chicago is a pretty appealing opportunity to look long and hard at it. I don't think he would do it, but I also think it's far from a "stupidity of epic proportions".

Not that far. Certainly in the same neighborhood.

the musings of a chicago sportswriter with wishful thinking ...

I suppose this could happen, but it does seem quite speculative ...

I suppose next he'll want Randy Johnson on Dancing with the Stars ...

Randy Johnson on Dancing with the Stars...now that would be a sight to see...

If Girardi leaves the New York Yankees for the minor leagues, then he's a damn fool! And there's no chance in hell Jerry Reinsdorf wants or will let Ozzie take his talents to South Beach.

Going to the Cubs would be more of a challenge.....as much as I am Yankees fan I know that coaching there is a better situation due to the money they have and the organization.....but Joe is hard headed and wants to show he can manage and win anywhere.....think of it in a LeBron James going to Miami way.....everyone is on his case about going to the best team money can buy....if Joe stays with the Yankees isn't he doing he same thing? It's all perspective...if Arod did what Jeter did the other night he would be crucified.
But in the end Joe will stay with the Yanks but I hope they don't sign Jeter.

Interesting, if Joe Girardi were to leave the Yankees to manage the Cubs and Ozzie Guillen were to leave the ChiSox and head to the Marlins; this would allow Tony La Russa to return to the American League and manage either the ChiSox or Yankees.
It will be interesting in 2011 to figure out who's managing who.

Why would Girardi ever want to leave when he a stud like AJ Burnett to throw out there every 5th day?

Excellence and NY definitely go hand-in-hand. The Mets, Knicks, Jets and Rangers immediately come to mind on the subject. Meanwhile, I associate Chicago with losing in every instance. Especially in the last 20 years. I mean, when was the last time the second city had ANY winning franchise? When was the last time the Blackhawks won a Stanley Cup? When did the Bulls ever win 6 titles in 8 years (91, 92, 93, 96, 97, 98)? Have the Bears ever even been to a Super Bowl (in 2006)? Or how about the White Sox? Have they EVER won a World Series (in 2005)?

And as far as the Cubs... what could possibly be attractive about the Holy Grail of coaching jobs in all of professional sports? Who would want to go after eternal baseball immortality by freezing over Hell itself and winning a World Series Title with the Chicago Cubs? Come on, let's get real. This job is the hottest woman in the world, and only a man with epically large cojones would dare go after her. 99% chance of failure, 1% chance of tapping a goddess.

So how big are Girardi's cojones?

Joe Torre, come home! Mets have the red carpet waiting.
