Undefeated Chiefs hiding Cassel's flaws

08:00 AM ET 09.20 | According to passer ratings, Matt Cassel is having as bad a year as football has seen since the early '90s. The short-term joy of being 2-0 after a 16-14 win over the Browns on Sunday is clouded by the long-term reality check that all the progress being made under coach Todd Haley and general manager Scott Pioli will mean bupkis if Cassel doesn't improve. Two games into his second season with the Chiefs, we're still waiting for him to be effective. He completed just 16 of 28 passes for 176 yards with two interceptions and no touchdowns. His passer rating is now 55.8. No quarterback has started at least 12 games with a passer rating that low since Browning Nagle for the Jets in 1992.

The fact that he's not good?

September 20, 2010  08:04 AM ET

He should have never goten a starting job in the first place.

September 20, 2010  08:04 AM ET

I give them credit for being 2-0. Some teams are 0-2 that "should" be going to the superbowl. What?????

September 20, 2010  08:09 AM ET

There is a reason he was Leinart's backup at USC...

September 20, 2010  08:10 AM ET

who would have thought KC and TB are 2-0

Agreed. Maybe some guys are just career 2nd/3rd string guys and can't carry a team?

He is their starter, is he not?

You just made my point, my friend.

Which means nothing.

He might be decent enough to start, but not the kind of qb who carries a team.

Its only week two, a little early to hope on the Undefeated band wagon.

September 20, 2010  08:36 AM ET

Remember, in their first game this year it rained felines and canines. It wasn't the kind of day you rack up big passing numbers. Last year, his O-line looked like a girls' school team. If they haven't improved, he's getting no time.

He had a pretty good season when he had to fill in for Brady in 2008. Before that, though, he pretty much stunk the place up every time they let him play.

*hop*

Doesn't say anything about them going 16-0. It just states the fact: 2-0 = undefeated.

It does mean everything! Now maybe, Cassel is not a great QB, but he is good enough to start!

Yes, but it doesn't mean he's good either.

I'd rather be 2-0 after the first two games than any other number. Pretty doesn't matter. If you're up by 1 after 60 minutes, it ain't a bad thing.

sure...but out of the 2-0 teams, who's most likely to lose their next 4?

Lower than JaMarcus Russell??? That's saying something.
