09:24 AM ET 09.23 | Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson is ready to raid Spain with a bid for Atletico Madrid's wonder keeper David de Gea. Ferguson missed his team's Carling Cup tie at Scunthorpe and flew to Valencia to watch United's next Champions League opponents, but it was a cover for a personal check on the young goalkeeper. The 19-year-old De Gea is rated the best young keeper in Europe is regarded as Edwin van der Sar's long-term successor.

You'll be hearing plenty of him in the coming years. He will ultimately be the one who takes St. Iker's place for La Furia Roja, and will become a fixture in goal for a decade.

and who is this kid? did he even make the world cup?

I doubt it. Even if he is good, he is only 17....

Here is a story that can make us all happy:

http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story?id=826134&sec=england&cc=5 901

Big-spending Manchester City have run out of fit defenders ahead of the visit of free-scoring Chelsea on Saturday, with Roberto Mancini admitting he is having "big problems" putting a back four together. City's talent-heavy squad has caused problems for Mancini when impatient players complained publicly when not selected, but now he faces the strange scenario of not having enough depth to cope with an injury crisis in his defensive stocks.

Don't worry, the EPL will let Man City sign an emergency defender or two.....

De Gea is too great of a talent to be waiting around. Look for him on the Euro roster ahead of either Reina or Valdes (just depending on who is playing better at the time). And even though St. Iker will "only" be 34 by the time Brazil rolls around, I just don't know that I see him in net for Spain until he's 40, so I would not at all be surprised to see that be his last major competition as Spain's unquestioned #1. Remember, he got his first cap when he was 19 as well... Whenever the time may be, De Gea is his successor.

What does this really say about the drop off after Joe Hart in England? We just had Foster last year, let him go- if United is actually serious about this. English keepers are full of blow.

Hart is my fantasy keeper... should I leave him in because he will make some saves? Or take him out becasue I know he will get scored on becasue MC defense is weak?

Hart is my keeper and either way I will continue my reign of Soccernet dominance regardless of who you choose.
