08:40 AM ET 09.24 | Chicago will reportedly be without Nick Boynton for Game 1 of the regular season. Boynton will receive a one-game suspension from the NHL for the throat-slash gesture he made to Tampa Bay's Blair Jones following their second-period fight in Wednesday's preseason opener. Boynton will sit out the Hawks' Oct. 7 opener at Colorado, but he can continue to play in the preseason. ... This is Boynton's second suspension for an inappropriate gesture. He was suspended in 2005-06 while playing for Boston.

Must have been one hell of a gesture. FN won't even put up his picture...just in case.

I saw it on video. I really did not think it was much of a gesture. I've certainly seen worse. I really think they are making too big of a deal about it. It was almost like he was gesturing something like "cut it out" or " stop the ****" instead of "slit your throat."

If that "move" is good enough for the Undertaker it's good enough for me.

On a lighter note I saw on the NHL channel last night highlights of Devils-Wings cup final from 1995. Always nice to see Scotty S lambaste Kozlov. Then as Federov is trying to revive Kozlov, let the Wings bench know they are next.

Great moment in hockey history.

Yes it is! Stevens could lay em out!!!!

This "gesture" thing, is a pile o ****!!!! Roy got traded to the best team in the league for giving the whole forum the finger(I think it was a double), and won a cup the next year!

Price did something like that a time or 2, but it's not having the same effect! ;)

Who knew pre-season games could get so heated

It's part of the new rules. The New Rules Video that NHL.com posted specifically mentions throat slash gestures.

Check out the video. They did add a rule to icing. If the Offensive player hits the D-man to prevent him from touching or after he touches then it's a penalty. No more Kurtis Foster incidents.

I was curious...how many times have you been suspended;)

I'm not sure but they won't put up my picture either. BTW - where's ADC?

I could think of a hell of alot worse things to do than a throat slash gesture. So many things to fix and they go after that?

Maybe they will send out a DVD like they did with the "directing the puck into the net" disc they sent out last year.

I hope not. I am surprised it took that many injuries to get that fixed! Still should be NO touch icing,as there seems like there is still a slight possibility that a player can get run into the boards, if the other player doesn't mind taking a penalty.

Good thing Stevens didn't make a "gesture" when he skated by the Wings bench ;)

Lesson for the future - It's OK to talk smack, but heaven forbid you make a gesture..
