Mets accuse Utley of dirty play

08:31 AM ET 09.25 | Tough talk, with veiled threats of retaliation, emanated from the Mets clubhouse last night after Chase Utley put a crushing slide on Ruben Tejada at second base during the Phillies' 3-2 victory over the Mets at Citizens Bank Park. The play in question occurred in the fifth inning, when Jayson Werth hit a grounder to David Wright for the start of a 5-4-3 double play. Utley, running from first base, waited until he was nearly on top of second base before sliding, and the 20-year-old Tejada got clobbered on the play. "I think it was a little dirty," Jose Reyes said. "A slide right on top of the base -- [Utley] didn't need to do that." Reyes added that he believes Utley "crossed the line" with his aggressiveness.

Cry me a **** river. Jeez, no wonder everyone thinks the Mets are a joke. Runners have been taking out the pivot man on double play balls forever. Get over it.

As a 2B himself Utely should be careful about the way he goes into second to break up the DP. Retaliation can come very quick and you surely don't want him hurt just before the playoffs........ after all it's only the Mets.

The only thing dirty on that field was the Mets. They stink! Four years running all I hear about pre-season is how the Mets have it together this year, this is their year, they're all healthy, blah blah blah ... they suck. Someone should tell Reyes that you look like a little crybaby beotch when you complain like that. Shut up and play, Reyes, you stiff.

Awwww...did somebody get a boo boo? Give me a friggin break here, just think if the Mets played the game the way the Phils do, maybe they wouldn't SUCK as much!!!!!!! They should be cryin that Wright and Beltran aren't hitting anymore, really who's scared of them anymore and let's face it...Bay wasn't Werth the money. You should be crying about leading the league with 12 grand slams, maybe Santana should put his money were his mouth is, or just give it back. Note to the Mets...Don't ASSume the way you play the game is the way winners play the game...and remember, THERE'S NO CRYIN IN BASEBALL!!!!!!!!!!

Amen to that...

The Mets aren't that familiar with Hard / Aggressive play...

So when they see it, they are easily confused into thinking it's Dirty play...

September 25, 2010  11:33 AM ET

I mentioned this before, they should move their team to Guam.

September 25, 2010  11:37 AM ET

The Mets have been looking for an excuse to brawl with the Phillies since J Ro said in 2007 "we're the team to beat in NL East" and the Phillies have been looking to give them a reason.

September 25, 2010  11:39 AM ET

I mentioned this before, they should fold up and disappear.

September 25, 2010  11:41 AM ET

I mentioned this before, they should crown the Phills now.

September 25, 2010  11:45 AM ET

Wait a minute, I need to get over to the foosball threads

September 25, 2010  12:07 PM ET

Quit whining Mets, have fun golfing in october....

September 25, 2010  12:10 PM ET

To the Mets. If you ever saw the movie the good the bad and the ugly.Tuco played suberbly by Eli Wallach says to an adversary if your going to kill me, kill me don,t talk about it. In the meantime he kill the cowboy running his mouth. Mets put your spikes. Pick up your gloves and start playin hard. Leave your agents at home.

September 25, 2010  12:25 PM ET

I must have missed an announcement. At what point did the Mets become a bunch of nancyboys?

September 25, 2010  12:31 PM ET

you guys all act like your team hasnt had a bad stretch of years..u know how bad the phillies were before they had the young guys come up ..if you werent a philly fan and it was vise versa and somoene on the mets slid that late ud call it dirty to utley is known for playing hard and doing some things that cross the line or come close to it so dont act like mets fans are complaining because the play was dirty and just a bone headed move and hopefully someone on the mets hits the guy in his temple and knocks him out for the season and then i can listen to the philly fans cry and be hypocritical

September 25, 2010  12:40 PM ET

Blay2428...either your 2nd grader is posting for you or you are a MORON.

September 25, 2010  12:42 PM ET

Oh, and go Phils! Keep on beating the Doormets.

September 25, 2010  01:07 PM ET

Oh, please. I saw the play live. Utley went in hard. He didn't lead with his spikes, he didn't kick the guy. You see this type of play all the time, except Tejada was too slow to get out of the way. I've seen opposing players go way outside the baseline after Valdez and Utley. What do they do? Either jump or step to the side. Let the Mets plunk Utley tonight if they want- he's already been hit 7 times just this September. If they try to take him out at 2nd, he'll just avoid the runner. Let them whine, we'll just sweep them.

Hey Steinbeck...think you could throw another punctuation mark or two somewhere in your rant? Jeezuz, my hair hurts from trying to get through that.
