Aggies coach apologizes to team
Texas A&M players had an emotional meeting with coach Dennis Franchione on Friday where he apologized for approving a secret e-mail newsletter for select boosters. Franchione's personal assistant, Mike McKenzie, said he wrote a weekly newsletter titled "VIP Connection." The e-mail described player injuries and offered tidbits about the Aggies that Franchione would not share with the public. For the second time this season, quarterback Stephen McGee lashed out at the media and defended Franchione.

What is this? The coach, under no circumstances should have approved this type of activity. The standard should be high for everyone involved. But the head coach, no excuse. Some punishment is required, from the university and perhaps the NCAA.

All I can say is who in their right mind would be this dumb?
I am sure the NCAA Infractions Committee has got their investigators on "speed dial" as we speak.
I HAVE PREVIOUSLY WRITTEN A BLOG ON COACH FRANCIONE... IF INTERESTED, HAVE A LOOK...

The coaches and the school should be held to a higher standard than the players. Not sure what, if any, violations were made. Stupidity and greed ( the schools ) are not crimes I suppose. The booster money went somewhere ( for scholarships no doubt), but shame on all of them..

The coach is letting the big bucks donors feel like insiders so they'll keep writing those checks. Not real classy but I'm not sure what NCAA rules were broken.

A&M gave this to the media to see if a big deal could be made so they could justify letting him go without saying how bad a coach he is. If RC was around I would seriously think the Aggies would come out of the Big XII unbeaten, but Franchione will find a way for them to lose close games.

So when a reporter gives an opinion and bad mouths a player, that reporter is scum and the coach has every right to make a "insert bad word for person's behind here". See OSU. But what is it when a coach sells this type of information i.e. certain players weakness (lack of speed or inability to consistently catch the ball)? I know that several coaches have web sites and/or insider subscriptions (Va Tech for a cost of $39.95 was one example brought up to me). I have had my head handed to me for disagreeing with the timing and the manner in which Gundy went off on a reporter for writing "garbage" about a "kid", but it is OK for a coach to sell insider information about a "kid"...

Coach Franchione is a real screw-up. This guy just cannot help but find a way to mess himself up. I hope the Aggies just cut the ties with this guy and move on for the sake of their program.
