08:29 AM ET 09.26 | One of the most complicated trades in NBA history keeps becoming more complicated, and last night, despite continued hope it would get done, there were concerns and frustrations the trade that would send Carmelo Anthony to the Nets was unraveling at the seams. The concerns centered around Denver not signing off on the deal for what one executive involved in the talks claimed were myriad reasons.

Come to LA, Bro.

Hard to put pen to paper when the realization is that the result will be a new era of your team sucking.

If this deal goes through, the Nuggets are the clear runaway winners... Favors is going to be a stud.

September 26, 2010  09:49 AM ET

The Nuggets are the dumbest franchise ever (aside from the Knicks) if the pass on this. Favors (a future superstar), AK (good player and expring contract) and draft picks? R u kidding? I'd ship Melo out in a heartbeat...and on a silver tablet.

September 26, 2010  10:25 AM ET

Clear runaway winners are the Nets who get the all-around superstar WHO IS ALREADY A STUD TODAY and yet has some 8 good years in front of him to turnaround their franchise and fill the stands.

They would then possess the two most precious and rarefied commodities in the game:
1) An unstoppable inside-outside scorer and clutch shooter who is also good at rebounding, passing, ball handling and has the athletic ability to become an excellent defender
2) A dominant 20-10 genuine big, mobile and skilled 7-foot center

That's how close as two time champ Kobe-Gasol one-two punch as it gets.

While I don't think that it's going to make the fanbase too happy, it actually DOES look like a somewhat decent deal for Denver. I'm not saying that trading Carmelo is ideal, but they are actually getting what looks to be quality in return. All of that, of course, is contingent on Favors being a quality player and AK staying healthy.

I wouldn't go so far as to call Denver "winners" in this deal, because at the end of the day, they're still losing one of the top 5 players in the game.

Well then... the Nets would be utterly insane to make the deal - wouldn't they?

How come y'all are so high on Melo? He plays no D and is just another overrated scorer. He's not even efficient, he's a career 45% shooter. And he'll cash 22 mil a year. That's in the "JJ bad contract" territory. Again, love the trade for Denver, hate it for NJ.

You never get full value in return for trading a superstar. That said, Favors and two future first round picks is a nice haul. From what I read, Denver wants to slow the pace of discussions. The mgmt still feels they can convince Melo to stay once they get him in the same room as George Karl, Chauncey Billups, etc.

45% shooter with the other team's best defender guarding him every night.

and as jgb said he's become a solid defender. you should watch him play sometime. he's one of the best.

So scoring 27-30 points a night means he sucks? And he DOES play defense now, he's not a 'lock-down' guy, but you clearly are going by what you've heard about him 3-4 years ago and not actually WATCHING himDo you understand that there are only 3-4 legit franchise players in the league? He's not a to 3 player....but he is a top ten guy.....EASILY and he's only just entering his prime. Not every team can have kobe, wade, pbj and duncan.....infact only THREE can....S f you don't have one of them.....you go out and try your best to get players

Never said he "sucked". But all he does is score (at 45% FG). For that, I don't want to pay 22 mil a year. I'd take Favors, AK (good and exp con) plus 2 1st rd draft picks. Clearly. Especially with most their recent players' contracts nearing an end, aging stars (Billups, Martin) and great young back up PG. With this trade, they hit full rebuilding mode with a lot of cap, picks, trade assets and a nice duo in Afflalo and Favors. Great, great deal.

September 26, 2010  11:31 AM ET

Ty Lawson, of course. Afflalo could be held or traded, either way.

September 26, 2010  11:34 AM ET

Nuggets need to dump him and do it while they can still get something for him. Th

The Nuggets are Gonna Suck with him or Favors. They aren't gonna come out of the west anytime soon,I don't care if the Nets trade them 10 years worth of Draft picks.
