Brenly not interested in Cubs job

10:12 AM ET 09.26 | The list of candidates to be the next Cubs manager shrank Saturday after television analyst Bob Brenly decided to take himself out of consideration. But the list may be smaller than the perceived one containing the names of multiple displaced former managers looking for work. Hendry's search doesn't necessarily get easier, but Brenly's withdrawal does narrow the list of candidates with ties to the Cubs -- something the Ricketts family ownership has said is important.

Why is FN devoting so many threads, so much time and energy, on a team that hasn't won a World Series in 100 years and probably will never do so?

Why would they want a manager with ties to the Cubs? Most clubs would rather have a manager with ties to winning.

wiseup: Who in their right mind would want to take on the Cubs. They are strapped with long term contracts on underachievers (See Soriano Ramierez and zambrano) . their is one up note, that is some of theiryoung talent. Still the Cubs no matter how good they are they some how manage to fall short of expectations. Sanberg, the job is yours.

Would it be because the Cubs are also one of 30 ML teams and not everyone cares what happens with the Yankees and Red Sox on a daily basis?

The ineptness of the Cubbies is humorous. Also, they are a good example of how not to run a ball club.

the cubs should try to hire and sign greg maddux, sign leo mazzone as their pitching coach, sign john smoltz as a bulpen coach, sign pedro martinez as bench coach, i mean this franchise should try to replace every coach department in a way to improve the every part of this cubs team!

Way to be up on things, alacran. Maddux has been an assistant general manage for the Cubbies since January 11, 2010. Unfortunately for Maddux, he has been learning from Jim Hendry.
