07:55 AM ET 09.27 | Center Kyrylo Fesenko reportedly turned down an offer from the Houston Rockets, according to a league source close to the situation. All indications point toward Fesenko soon signing a one-year, $1.1 million qualifying offer with the Jazz, and participating in training camp Tuesday. However, Fesenko will not sign the offer until Monday at the earliest, and the possibility remains that he could continue to explore a free-agent market that is light on experienced NBA big men.

I am a little surprised that no team is willi.g to give this YOUNG big say a 3 yr 6-8 mil chance. There's another thread about detroit needing a big.....how about him?

Have you seen the guy play? $1.1 mil is a stretch for him, and he should be thanking god he's getting that much. He has the coordination of a 3 week old hippo and has zero offensive skills whatsoever. He's an ok rebounder but when you're 7'1''/300 lbs "ok" won't cut it. He'll be out of the league in 2-3 years and back in Russia, if not the D-League.

May have something to do with the fact that this dude has butter fingers? Just being tall will only get you $1.2M. Rest has to be EARNED through skills, which he doesn't have!
But the point about Joe is a good one. I won't be surprised if he gave this guy a 4-yr, $45M deal. I mean, its Joe!!!

Try taking your talent down to South Beach, Bro.

Yeah... I thought Cleveland had him on lock. Cavs need to get something in the middle to build around. Right now they have nothing - no hope. Hickson sucks! He'll be average at best...

Exactly. That's the fee for having a 7 footer, around a million. I've seen Fes play 50 times, the guy is not a basketball player, just a huge body to bang around and take fouls. I think I watched him airball 5 free throws last year, and a couple that he almost threw over the backboard. He's awful.

Oh, and I retract my previous comment about him being an ok rebounder. He isn't. He averages less than 2 a game. My bad.

You would think his size alone would pull in a better contract than that, but Fesenko hasn't played enough minutes for teams to get an idea of his upside. The Jazz acquired Elson after Fesenko decided to play the FA market, so they'll be fighting for minutes now. Hopefully Okur's Achilles' heals quickly because if Jefferson gets injured, it's frightening to think of either Elson or Fesenko in a starting lineup.

Fesenko fits the mold of the traditional Jazz center--big, relatively sturdy and very low expectations on offense. (See Mark Eaton, Mike Brown, Greg Osterfat). He was playing maybe 5-10 mins/game in the regular season and actually played better than I thought he would in the playoffs subbing for Okur, and I thought showed some potential. The Jazz know him best, so if they were only willing to offer him 1 million, other teams probably figured that was all he was worth.

Highly doubtful Okur will be back before January. Elson or Fes will start at some point.

He is a big body and a project. $1 million is about right.
