08:00 AM ET 09.28 | Even at 1-2, Adrian Peterson does not lack for confidence. Riding high after a 160-yard performance against the Lions, Peterson restated his claim today as the NFL's best running back. ... "I know I'm the best," said Peterson after Monday's workouts. "In my mind and my heart, I know that and I believe that. That's really all that matters to me. I really don't care about other people saying, 'Oh, I think Chris Johnson is the better back or this and that.' It doesn't matter." When forecasting his career and goals to be the NFL's all-time leading rusher, Peterson added, "As long as I play, I'll be the best."

It's good his confidence is back after having that fumble-licious season last year. Run Adrian Run.

September 28, 2010  08:23 AM ET

Just give him the ball. Until the old fella gets his weapons back it's the best recourse to what ails this team.

September 28, 2010  08:24 AM ET

he can talk all the smack he wants, but the Vikes still have a losing record, and AP has not won a Superbowl.

Agreed. It's easy to feel strong after having run for 160 against an 0-3 team.

September 28, 2010  08:51 AM ET

It's the GREAT ones that play hard, keep their mouths shut and let us do the talking. Typical of today's athlete - build their stats and not accomplish anything!

September 28, 2010  08:59 AM ET

You can be the best...but what good is it on a team that looks like it's going nowhere fast.

September 28, 2010  09:00 AM ET

Talk all you want but as long as CJ is around that is all it is...talk. Two seasons in Johnson breaks the all time mark for yards from scrimmage and rushes for over 100 yards in a game 12 straight times and is one of only six backs to go over 2,000 yards. Until Peterson can match up numbers wise he may want to just shut up and play.

With comments like these, I can' wait for Peterson's contract negotiations to start.

Everybody is the best when they are playing the Lions

He might not be the best, but that won't stop his agent from wanting AP to be paid like the best.

Week 10, baby, week 10. Lions vs. Bills. Then we'll see who's on track for that #1 pick, and who's just a fake that THINKS they suck.

September 28, 2010  09:24 AM ET

After 3 games this guys talking. He's good, but man just shut your mouth and play.

Seems like there are some better candidates than that.

hahahaha I was thinking the same thing.

QUOTE(#18):

This dude needs to focus more on winning games and not fumbling than his personal stats....

he hasnt fumbled yet this year, but didnt he have an 80 yard breakaway run. That'll pad the numebr considering hes only run for 392 so far. And Brett has been sucking so the options are kind of limited.
