Ravens sticking with McNair

Despite Steve McNair's struggles in the red zone, Ravens coach Brian Billick said he is not considering replacing his starting quarterback with Kyle Boller. McNair was 4-for-8 passing in the red zone and struggled with accuracy. He didn't appear to step into his throws, which made his passes sail out of the end zone. But Billick and McNair said the quarterback is not being affected by a lingering groin injury.

Ravens are Mediocre at Best! I picked the Browns to win that game......Maybe I do know something about football....

How can a football player not be affected by a "lingering groin injury"?

McNair is a walking lingering injury, which is sad because when healthy he's one of the best. Age has not been kind to this man.

October 2, 2007  07:43 AM ET

Take that man out if you want. It will be the end of all things good in Baltimore...

McNair's leadership is needed but his injuries have hurt this team overall. I agree he is the better QB with talent but sometimes a healthy and confident QB is much more productive.

Props to Billick for showing loyalty to his guy. Props to Steve for having so much heart. Both qualities that are in short supply. That being said, it's time for Steve to step aside. There is a fine line between being a competitor and being harmful to your team.

McNair needs to lose the 5 layers of flack jacket that he wears, and maybe he can move around a bit in the pocket. This is where he's most dangerous.

I'm stuck on band aid brand cuz band aids stuck on me....

October 2, 2007  09:20 AM ET

Besides the Colts and Pats, the AFC is still up in the air. Ravens have a great chance of making the playoffs. Steve maybe on the decline, but he's better than many quarterbacks in the NFL.

October 2, 2007  09:24 AM ET

He'll play until he drops, but . . . he'll drop.

October 2, 2007  10:28 AM ET

leftwich... should have gotten leftwich!!!!!

October 2, 2007  10:33 AM ET

McNair has become the QB equal to his former team mate Eddie George. The years of injuries have taken a cumulative toll. His deep game was gone before the groin injury, now he's lucky to throw it 15 yards downfield. He might be a gamer, but there's no game left. The real problem for Raven Fan is having ol' Kyle waiting in the wings. Tough choice formerly talented guy who can barely play vs. no-talent guy who can barely play.

October 2, 2007  11:54 AM ET

The Ravens will be shopping for a QB.

Atlanta may take a 4th rounder for Leftwitch if the trade deadline has not passed. it is pretty early in the season concerning the NFL trade deadline isn't it?

October 2, 2007  12:35 PM ET

T-fo: 15 yards, c'mon, he still has a gun of an arm. I just think he's not reading defenses like he use to. If you saw the game last week, he had all day to throw the ball, but I think he's use to running then throwing. His pocket passing accuracy i believe is off, and he is better on the move.

October 2, 2007  02:04 PM ET

He's getting old, plain and simple. But Boller isn't a barn burner either. Probably should have grabbed Leftwich.

October 2, 2007  06:05 PM ET

PLAY TROY SMITH!!!!! HE WON A FREAKING HEISMAN! I know that alot of heisman winners haven't panned out in the pros, but how the heck do you expect to find out by playing kyle "i shoulda been a" boller?! By the way, the Browns are L-E-G-I-T. They got rid of small frye, so its all good in c-town.

October 2, 2007  06:14 PM ET

When Kyle Boller is your backup, its not like there really is a decision to be made here, is there?

October 2, 2007  07:21 PM ET

You almost have to feel sorry for the guy. He's always banged up and playing when he probably shouldn't. It might help in the short term but all those games where he's played through an injury (or several) are catching up. What a shame McNair seems like a really good guy and he's as tough as they come. But hey we all get old :(

October 2, 2007  07:22 PM ET

considering the backups, I'd stick with McNair too.

October 2, 2007  09:41 PM ET

McNair is the better quarterback when healthy, but he wasn't healthy when they played the Browns. His groin injury really hindered his ability to step into his throws and McNair wasn't accurate at all. I'd have played Boller if I were Brian Billick.

Kyle Boller would make a great backup for any man. From what I hear, he had 'em lined up at the clubs and Super Bowl fiestas.

He may not get the Lombardis, but he will definitely bag some trophies when it's all said and done.
