Richt: It could get worse

09:04 AM ET 09.30 | Saying his team wouldn't lose its poise, Mark Richt couldn't say the same about football games. [Richt] didn't hang around long at Tuesday night's Touchdown Club of Athens meeting, showing up late and leaving immediately after some brief comments and taking a couple of questions from the floor. But he didn't skip the fan gathering, as some had speculated he would, and when he took the microphone he didn't duck the issue of Georgia's 0-3 conference start, either. "We are where we are," the coach said to the full-house crowd assembled to hear his mentor, Bobby Bowden. "We're going to have to get better or it's gonna get worse. It's not going to stay the same. I told the players, you think it's bad now; it could get worse."

Maybe he should start throwing "dagnumit"s into his speeches.

Just a thought.

Is that the UGa version of "dadgummit"?

I cannot imagine the pressure cooker he's in.

the thing is...he shouldn't be, he's lost a QB just about every year, he was bound to have a freshman QB...play like a freshman QB....the team is young, just don't finish O-fer and come back better next year better than ever...under reduced expectations...

He showed his colors by not ditching the event -- standing up and saying what he thinks, painful as it is. I respect the guy a ton.

Dawgs better understand that running him off means you gotta have a better alternative ready, and who would that be? We've beaten that horse til it's nothing but road gravy, but it's the truth.

Maybe Richt isn't getting his fair share of the felons.

are we talking about parental eating lessons again in Georgia - "dad gum it"?

Are you sure those words are for "eating" lessons?

Oh they have more than their share of felons.

Joe Cox wasn't a freshman. The situation he has is due to his abilities. That's the bottom line. I'm sure he is a great guy, but he doesn't have an experienced QB because he didn't get the job done.

I can honestly say Les Timex seat is even hotter..

Really, LUS? You're there, so you'd know, but I'd imagine MR's 1-3 squad would be under a little more stress than LM's 4-0 squad. Things may not be perfect in the red stick, but the record is.

It's always a crapshoot when you go and try to find another coach. Sometimes you get lucky, sometimes... not so much...

Yes.. I know we are 4-0 and I am happy... But they see it as we arent 4-0 cuz of Miles.. Its cuz of Chavis and the STs... The O is worst than last year and I dont know how that could even be possible.. He doesnt want to make changes.. And there is some stuff coming out the locker room being told to a former player who is close to The peep with the $$$$ And to quote Jeremy Foley.. Firing a year early(Zook) is better than a year late

Darth Foley's apprentice was just hired as UGA's AD...

Good post and I wasn't meaning to be critical of you, if you took it that way. Sometimes coaches get in this situation, though, and the automatic belief is to give them the benefit of the doubt. But, the coach still has to be ultimately responsible for not having someone ready to go.

I'm not saying you are, but I'm saying fans want to make every excuse as to why the team isn't prepared, I've seen fellow fans do it, and it's not pretty when you get to that point.

Isn't Mark Richt still like the best coach in Georgia football history?
