Notre Dame's freshman sparkplug

11:14 AM ET 10.03 | Trying to perk up a listless kickoff-return game, Notre Dame coach Brian Kelly turned to Bennett Jackson. And the freshman didn't let him down -- again. Jackson ignited the Irish's lightning-fast start against Boston College by returning the opening kickoff 43 yards to midfield. Four plays later, Dayne Crist scored on a seven-yard run -- and Notre Dame had a 7-0 lead and 92 all-purpose yards after just 1:48 had elapsed. It was the second time this season that Jackson had made the most of an opportunity. After starting preseason practice on the scout team, Jackson was inserted into kickoff coverage and had four tackles in the opener against Purdue.

This is the year we stop the Trojans! You heard me! NEVER 9 IN A ROW, NOT GONNA HAPPEN!

Van, I think you better just call this season a work in progress and hope for "not ten in a row".

they enter a pretty easy stage in their schedule, would be good if they could rip off a few in a row to get a little momentum, but either way, it doesnt really matter, this year is a write off.

The Sark seems to have the number of his old employer's team. UW's now won two in a row over USC - the first with PC as HC, the second with Lane "Babyface" Kiffin at the helm. Even with the Trojans exposing their vulnerability in the Colosseum, ND will have to get it up, keep it up, and be the beneficiary of breaks in the game in order to match UW's feat.

Has Bennett done enough to secure a spot returning kicks throughout the remainder of the season?

Uhhh, hate to be the one to bust your bubble, but USC isn't ranked at all.

Don't let him collect for any charities and he'll be fine.

He is hoping we beat both stanford and ore, that would of course put us back in the rankings. Hell at this point, I am just hoping we stay within a couple of touchdowns of each of them.

That's correct Van, your Irish will stop the Trojans this year...
IRISH: 23
USC: 17

ICEnSoCal, it was mentioned earlier that USC were going to finish at 10-3 or 9-4 and I don't think we need to change that prediction. IMO, I don't see the Irish beating USC this year.

He had 111 yards, returning 4 kicks...not bad.

Lane Kiffin can't lose enough; his arrogance is finally catching up with him, and most coaches love to pound his team.
ND may not be ready this year, but it's almost eight weeks away and either team could go either way, improve or continue to struggle. I'm betting on ND to improve on an easier schedule and more familiarity with Kelly's offense, and USC to continue to struggle because Kiffin can't coach.
Time will tell.
