08:30 AM ET 10.05 | Tony La Russa can see the big picture, but he'll take some time to decide whether he wants to be the agent of change. As he took a break between packing relics from his office and evaluating his current team, [La Russa] spoke Monday less about the time he needed to decide about a return than the time he's already spent in the job. He mentioned one of the concerns he has about coming back to the Cardinals for a 16th season is the 15 he already has in the uniform. "I think it is an issue. Fifteen years is a long time for one guy in one place," La Russa said. "As great as this place is, at some point it's going to be good when the new guy comes in. I think it's going to refresh the whole situation."

IMO, he "lost" some of his players this year so I'm on the fence about him coming back. Well, he said he's have a decision in a week so we shall see

I don't think he is going to go out on the sour note this season finished on. I think he will be back.

The Pirates have a job opening for a manager. If La Russa can turn around the Pirates after 18 losing seasons in a row he could go down as the best manager in baseball.

In other words "the available jobs are worse than this one so I'll take money for one more year till Pujols bails so I can claim that my leaving is the reason that the team stinks in 2012".

LOL. Okay, that's pretty funny.

beat it Tony....if you need help packing let me know. You are doing nothing here in STL that another coach cannot do. Please take Duncan too....our pitching staff is bad enough. If you have room in your car, please load up Lohse, Fat Brad Penny, Skip, Motte, Boggs, Hawksworth, Suppan, Miles, B Ryan, Craig, Jay, Mather, Stavinoah and Winn. The only team to employ any of these idiots is the St Louis Deadbirds....if not for them, none of these people would be playing baseball at the professional level.

Doesn't matter who manages the Pirates. Upper management won't let the team get better. A manager won't fix that.

So you think the Cardinals have a few holes, huh? I have to admit that's a pretty impressive list of has beens and never was players.

In the end, all of this has more to do with LaRussa preening for another fat contract than anything else. He's like a large over-the-hill peacock.

Oh man, I just got busted at work for looking at this site because I laughed so hard! Who in their right mind would want to manage the Pirates? They make a great profit doing what they do and the team will never win until they have a new owner. Period.

I think that He will be back next season.

I think you've been reading The Power of Positive Thinking too much

Not really.......Pujols isn't going anywhere

October 5, 2010  11:11 AM ET

Tony's too proud to leave after such a disappointing season. And by "proud," I mean "egotistical." He'll be back. And, no, Pujols isn't going anywhere. Letting him leave would be akin to the BoSox trading Ruth. Management would have a hard time reaching that magical 3 mil mark without him.

St. Louis Deadbirds is missing a few live brain cells - if I were you, I wouldn't listen to anything he/she/it has to rant about!

October 5, 2010  11:53 AM ET

He'll be back next year. Even though they have a lot of worthless players on their roster, the Cards can definitely win their division and I think he'd like to go out on top. The only team that doesn't have a chance at winning the NL Central next year is the Pirates, but they never do...

The team hadn't sniffed a World Series since since their last appearance in 1987. Tony comes in and they go to 2 World Series and win 1 of them. By your own admission, he's gotten alot out of players that wouldn't do nearly as well under other managers. Your words. My god what a terrible job LaRussa has done. Your right he should be forced out... You must be originally from Philly...
