JCC is a lock for a first time induction. i can only hope that iron mike will make it in there if not this time then eventually. say what you will about his personal life and decisions but the man was unstoppable for a very long time in the ring. buster douglas fought a mike tyson that didnt care and didnt prepare for him. three years in prison and came back to win the title again. mike should be in there one day.

Mike Tyson is a first Ballot Hall of Famer, period. He saved Heavyweight boxing and then destroyed it... no other ring figure has ever done that before.
Also, everyone knows his downfall was head/legal issues and not a lack of talent. He came back after that long layoff... fat and winded, and almost KO'd the Heavyweight Champ Lewis in the first round... come'on

No question that Tyson is a first ballot HOF'er. This guy was MENACING in the early part of his career, and was the main reason there was any interest at all in the heavyweight division.

For a long period of time? I beg to differ since he wasn't dominate all that long. 3 years and 9 title defenses is a good but I wouldn't say it was a long period of time.

Tyson will get in and probably on the first try but I think its more on his popularity than what he did in the ring. Other than being the youngest heavyweight champion ever he really hadn't accomplished all that much in the ring.
He lacks victories over the best guys of his generation. I understand the force he was early in his career but part of being a HOFer is doing it for a long period of time. I think 1st ballot guys should be dominate boxers over long periods of time.
Chavez is a 1st ballot hall of fame lock.

Not sure what Lewis fight you where watching but Tyson was owned in that fight. He did nothing after coming back from prison. Sorry but defeating Seldon and Frank Bruno don't impress me.

Mike Tysons disfunctions outside of the ring were caused by the same things that made him great in the ring. Don't keep him out of the hall---he had a great!!!! career as a boxer. when was the last time you knew of that a professional fighter was afraid to get in the ring with another fighter? There were a couple guys who didn't want to get in there with Mike.

There is not a man on the planet whose knees would not be shaking if they had to run into Mike Tyson in a dark alley. That is enough reason to be in HOF. first vote.

There is not even a debate about this one. Any voter who does not vote for Tyson shames him- or herself. He was arguably the most feared man to even enter the ring. Just because he went on to become one of the most feared human beings outside the ring as well should have nothing to do with this vote. He never cheated, which is a legitimate reason to keep people like the 1919 Black Sox, Rose, McGwire, Sosa, Bonds, etc. out of the Baseball HOF, so he should be in easily.

All the titles like "Most Feared man in the ring" are nothing more than cliche used to sell fights.
Doesn't anyone value longevity anymore? I am not talking about outside the ring but inside of it as well. He wasn't champion all that long. Had a good run but not one that would warrant a first ballot HOF entry.
I can totally understand not giving Tyson a first ballot entry for two reasons. 1) He wasn't the best heavyweight of his era and 2) never beat another all time great fighter in his prime. When he did face ATG fighters he lost.
You have to take into account his whole body of work and not just a small time frame. I can pick out 4 years where Zab Judah looked like the best fighter of his era.

I agree. To me Tyson and Julio are first time HOF and probably two of the 15 greatest boxers of all time. I only disagree when you say "Tyson did not cheat". Don't you remember him biting and almost eating holyfield ear? That was insane.

I hope Tyson get in. The only thing I don't like is that he could have, should have been great. But he will go down only as being good, real good. But nowhere near Ali, great.

Mike's character has grown immensely over the past few years, which says a lot about the man. But that being said, even if this was the "accused of rape" Mike Tyson from the 90's, he still deserves to go in simply because this isn't a sport based on good character. It is certainly an added plus if you are one of the best AND are a likable enough guy, but this isn't exactly a sport that has been counted on to develop role models for children over the past 50+ years.

ANYBODY WHO BITES A CHUNK OF EAR OFF DOES NOT BELONG IN THE HOF. TRULY GREAT FIGHTERS WIN AND LOSE WITH DIGNITY. WHEN HE BIT HOLYFIELD IT JUST SHOWED WHAT A CLASSLESS BUMB HE IS.HE DOSENT BELONG WITH THE TRULY GREAT FIGHTERS ie. ALI, FRASIER, HAGLER, HEARNS JUST TO MENTION A FEW. IT WOULD BE A DISHONOR TO ALL THOSE GREAT FIGHTERS.

Irin Mike is a man of two careers. Pre-jail he was in the top 3 of greatest heavyweight fighters, post jail...well, he fell of the deepend. It does seem he has gotten a handle on his life. I say let him in, he bled enough for the chance.
