Carroll-Harbaugh flap lucrative but irrelevant

08:23 AM ET 10.07 | The "What's your deal?" exchange, while lucrative and more than a little funny, is not something Jim Harbaugh or Lane Kiffin are thinking about. Harbaugh said Tuesday that his exchange with [Pete] Carroll "couldn't be any more irrelevant" this week but added that "I don't have any regrets" about going for the two-point conversion with a 48-21 lead and 6:47 remaining. Carroll left USC last winter to coach the Seattle Seahawks. Attempts to reach him through the Seahawks, who have a bye this week, were unsuccessful. ... When asked about the Stanford ticket plan, Kiffin said: "It's irrelevant, unless the Seahawks are on their schedule."

For one, I am pleased by Harbaugh's helmsmanship and the resurgence of Stanford football. <This does not distract me from the Cardinal's women's gymnastic team.> I have no dog in this hunt, so, I'll enjoy the game without rooting on one team against the other. If I have any wish for this contest, it would be for the Kiff to skiff - get plowed by one of his own and go skidding across the sideline turf. Though I do not desire serious injury to Lane, an embarassing moment to be forever replayed on YouTube would be welcome.

That's not going to happen... the only embarrassment Kiffin will have will be similar to the UW game where he made some bad calls... perhaps the Kiffin that should be leaving is Monte, who doesn't know what to do with the athletes on the d side... it's been said that the players are starting to "gel" to the Tampa 2, but they better solidify fast coming into Luck's arena... I see SC playing real conservative again with Allan Bradford and a wrinkle or two with Baxter... Maybe Barkley will take a few shots down the field to Rojo or Carswell to stretch... but they want to keep the ball out of Luck's hands... regardless Stanford should win this by 2 tds... or 3... or 4... sigh* Where's John McKay?

The best response a coach has given when asked about going for 2 points --- Woody Hayes was asked why he (Ohio State) went for 2 when they were handily beating Michigan. His response was "Because I couldn't go for 3." Love it.
