Rays fans bid farewell to Crawford

08:29 AM ET 10.08 | Carl Crawford didn't quite let the ovation wash over him, but he certainly noticed. "I thought that was really neat. I didn't know that was going to happen. That was really nice of the fans," he said. "I try not to get emotional about too many things but it was a time when things started running through your head and you kind of got a little soft." ... Crawford's contract is up after this season, and Rays ownership has been preparing for his inevitable departure. There are already plans to slash payroll next season, so even if the Rays could give Crawford a long-term deal of $100 million or so, it would chew up too large a percentage of available funds. "I always have hope (of staying)," Crawford said. "This is the organization I've been with since I was 17. You always keep that little ounce of hope."

I've learned that you still have to get that final out first. See Sox '86 ALCS and '04 ALCS. So to say he won't be going back to Tampa is premature, but I sure as hell hope he's played at the Trop for the last time. GO RANGERS!

even if they win the series and WS for that matter. crawford is playing his last season in a rays uniform. they simply will not be able to afford him.....the fans, the management, the team, and the rest of the league know it. players might only have one chance to get a max contract and for 99.8% of the players will and should seize that opportunity.
yeah, the bosox are the obvious choice but don't be surprised if he ends up playing for the Phils next season especially if Werth leaves and they can move Ibanez. don't count the Rangers out either.....chance to play in his home state???
