Boucher already in Laviolette doghouse?

08:38 AM ET 10.08 | Peter Laviolette went against the grain for opening night. It didn't even seem like a possibility, for [Brian] Boucher or anyone else, that Laviolette would tap Sergei Bobrovsky, a 22-year-old untested Russian netminder, for the job. "I was a bit surprised," Boucher said. "I know Sergei had a great camp, and, obviously, it came down to a coach's decision and that's just the way it goes. I feel good about my training camp, so I don't think it's a reflection on that. It doesn't affect the way I think about myself." ... Laviolette has shown little confidence in Boucher since taking over last December, except when Boucher has been pressed into service because of an injury.

Isn't a goalie controversy, like, required every season in Philly?

btw ...nice win in the 'Burgh last nite

Nice work from the Bobky last night. He played well, had a little luck, and watched the Flyers special teams take it to the Pens.

I know nothing about that kid who was in goal last nite (had the sound off)... where did he come from?

If he is, Bobrovsky better be as good as he looked last night or it's going to be a long season.

Yep. Just as sure as the leaves will change color, the fall will bring questions in goal for the Flyers.

Great game last night. Philly played great. They deserved to win. Not sure what to say about the goaltending situation, because I did not follow either's status in camp? "Bob" as they call him looked just fine last night, but time will tell?

With the way Bobrovsky played last night Boucher might be in the Outhouse now.

good season opener ...game could have gone either way, I saw plenty of pucks go off the posts for both teams. I am stoked NHL is back!

Relax Boucher ! You get paid to sit or stand. It could be worse-you could be Carey Price :-)

October 8, 2010  09:13 AM ET

What's going to be interesting is what happens when Leighton comes back. These guys have a month to make a case to be either the starter or back-up. I hope Laviolette can handle that situation without causing locker room issues.

Or Miikka Kiprusoff who got lit up by an Edmonton Daycare.

It was a great opening day game. Both teams played well and it could have gone either way if not for a post shot here and there. I just hope the Flyers show some patience with Bobrovsky and let him develop.

I disagree, that game would have been over in the first period if we didn't see Varlamov part deux. That being said, the Pens did throw away their chances in the 3rd with poor play and dumb mistakes. Nice to see the new look power play (sarcasm).

I posted this on another thread, and I thought it should be posted here.

They played more than decent considering Staal is out, PPK is lacking without him, PP needs tweaked w/o Gonchar, they are feeling each other out considering all the different parts. It's gonna take a little bit for the Pens to become fully adjusted to the "new parts/new guys."

Pens fans this morning are feeling a little bitter. They are just a tad "stung," by the fact the Flyers ruined their opening day party. I was bummed, but I rather move on, and wait to ruin the Flyers playoff party. ;)

It will be interesting to see how the Flyers rookie goalie holds up. I am also not hitting the panic button for the Pens or handing the Flyers the Cup after one game. Personally I thought the Pens played a better game overall but the Flyers had a goalie that carried them (sound familiar?).

He came from Metallurg Novokuznetsk of the KHL, a pretty bad team in that league, so he had a decent workload over there. He did pretty well last night, especially off of first shots, however he seemed to get a little lost and slow a couple times when the puck would move to the across the crease on him. So if he can improve his work while on the ground and not get intimidated by Philly fans he might do pretty well this year.

Laviolette should just start Vick and then that will all be behind them.

Nah, we intimidate just as well with actions as we do with words. After all we are the worst fans in the known universe so we've picked up a few things ;)
