Oilers seeing glimpse of dazzling future?

09:03 AM ET 10.08 | In short, it was storybook good. One of the Edmonton Oilers cherubs, Jordan Eberle, scores his first NHL goal with a swashbuckling toe-drag around defenceman Ian White, then a ho-hum backhand past the estimable Miikka Kiprusoff, and sets up the new captain Shawn Horcoff. Then the oldest guy on the ice, Nikolai Khabibulin, pitches his first Oilers' shutout, 42nd on his career resume, if you're counting. ... "It was only one game but I think the fans got a glimpse of the future tonight," said Horcoff, who played with the baby-faced Eberle and the prize 18-year-old Taylor Hall throughout the good-to-the-last-drop night. "The Battle of Alberta ... a great fight. I don't know if we had an area where we let down. Impressive."

First, it should have been 5-0.
Dazzling doesn't adequately describe Eberle's first and what should have been only goal. The one he shouldn't have gottenlooked a lot like a snipers goal but it for sure hit Horcoff on the way in. Captain Horcoff didn't claim it though letting the rookie bask in the glow.
Even Penner seemed to have a spring in his step. Hemske was flying around. Hall was even killing penalities? I like that. Toews-ish....
Then there was the coup de grace... The fight between MacIntyre and Ivanans was a humdinger too. Big finish. Ivanans should have regrets about that one.
Maybe I will watch a bit more before late Feb than I previously stated. Things are looking up in Not Quite Deadmonton.....

Just wait until game 60. These baby-faced players are going to be real tired by then and feeling the effects of playing a long season in the pros.
Nobody expects…

Like the athlete's themselves...shouldn't get too high with a win and shouldn't get too low with a loss. It's only one game.

I think it might be the defense that gets exposed rather than the baby-faced pros. Youthful exuberance can go a long way to keeping you fresh.
Still a year or two away from being to shelf but things are looking up.

Anyone talking badly about this team should be ashamed. They're young, and yeah they'll probably burn out and not be in contention come trade day, but let them glow in their debuts.
Oh, and Penner scored. No doubt.

Tamby is looking like the best thing Lowe ever did #2 Eberle (those might be the wrong way around but they look great )and yes phantom they will probably hit a few walls this year as long as there is no cancer in the LR these guys will be definite contenders in 2 years

I always watch my Oilers one way or another. I high grade games through the season and never miss them, matches I like against the Canucks and big eastern games.
I usually watch Flames games too.

I don't know if the Edm viewers got the pre game Coach Sutter interview but it sent a cold blast down my back when he openly mentioned the pre season success.Everyone in the Hockey world knows pre season means sweet jack all but my coach does not?????If this keeps up i will have to start really really paying attention to the rankings of next years draft picks.Never mind-Duhryl will trade it away for a bag of pucks anyways

If you brought a cooler pack with pop and snacks would they confiscate that? Or are they simply looking for the booze?

No outside food or drink ! You must buy our shrivelled over steamed hotdogs for 4$ and pay 5 bucks for a medium mix errrr i mean pop.I understand though because maintenance of the small out dated under equipped washrooms ( pee sinks save the day) must cost a lot.
