Will Bengals re-sign Lewis?

08:27 AM ET 10.09 | As the coach of the defending champion of what may be football's toughest division, Marvin Lewis has plenty on his mind before the 2-2 Cincinnati Bengals enjoy their bye week. One potential distraction, however, is Lewis' unsettled contract situation: Twelve weeks from now (or longer, if the Bengals return to the playoffs), the eighth-year head coach might be saying goodbye.

I would recommend he win the division...

Gotta produce this year or else. I think it's the same situation with Lovie Smith. Might even be that way for Brad Childress.

A coach who makes the playoffs shouldn't have to worry about his job. Remember Dungy?

The HC always takes the blame. Who else is there, the GM? Doesn't work for the Bengals....or the Cowboys. Of course, the Cowboys are not the best example in this instance.

Once Favre is out of the equation, I can't see the Vikes letting Childress hang around much longer. Maybe a season, unless they feel like giving Leslie Frazier his shot as an HC rather than let him go elsewhere.

Things brings up an interesting question: who is going to get fired at the end of this season? Here are my picks:
Definitely Out
1. Marvin Lewis is gone.
2. Jack Del Rio says goodbye.
3. Tom Coughlin
4. John Fox
5. Raheem Morris
I wouldn't be surprised at all to see these guys gone too:
1. Andy Reid
2. Norv Turner

Unless Singletary can get the 49ers together, I'd add him to the list.
And it wouldn't surprised me when Eric Mangini or Tom Cable gets the boot.

tough position for Lewis considering the players they bring in... Henry, Ochocinco, Owens, Maualuga, that dud of a tackle from last year, etc.... not examply guys that will make it easier to coach a team... got to give the guy some credit...

lewis under heat? i can rattle off at least 4 other coaches who have no excuses at all. on top of that they wont their division last season. palmer has been consistantly bad despite offense upgrades. head coach always takes the heat, but this shouldnt even be considered right now. it think of san fran, jacksonville, carolina, giants, raiders...but benglas head coach...come on now.

I think the Bengals just got lucky last year. Pittsburgh had a down year and the officials handed the Bengals one game against the Ravens. By the time they reached the playoffs they had nothing to beat a team they were supposed to be better than. Look at the Bengals this year, they got better players and are probably not going to make the playoffs.

That's a lot of turnover. I don't argue with the list, but some of those guys might survive because there just aren't enough replacements. I think Raheem Morris and McDaniels (who could start to be in trouble next year) have taken some of the shine off the idea of hiring the youngest kid on the block.
For all the Cowher fans out there, he will have his choice of all the jobs he's been rumored to consider.

Lewis really hasn't done anything since being in the right place at the right time when Carson Palmer was available in the draft. That being said, I personally would like to see OC Bob Bratkowski get canned first. I've heard my fill of praise for that guy over the years and have yet to see anything that would deserve such praise. Bratkowski gets almost as much dap as Martz, and we know how that has been working out since Martz inherited the Rams.

Marvin seems like a good guy but just can't get that team to the next level. Sort of a defensive version of Norv Turner. He will turn up somewhere else though... Even Belicheat didn't work out in his first head stint...

Don't forget Lovie Smith. Turner I'm not too sure of. The Lord of No Rings likes to have someone that won't wonder out loud WTF his G.M is thinking. If Raheem Morris manages to go .500 or close he may get another year.

That is every year for 80% of the coaches in the league. Do not feel sorry for them they get paid - they work harder then just about every player though.
