Would Niemi have saved that shot?

10:57 AM ET 10.09 | Doesn't matter if it's overtime or the first period, but especially overtime. That's no way to make Blackhawks fans forget Antti Niemi. It might not be fair, but it's there, just like Paul Stastny's shot 3:40 into OT. It could be worse. It could prompt a comparison to exiled Cristobal Huet, who killed his Hawks career last March in Philly when he gave up two goals in the last 2:04, including the winner with three seconds remaining to complete the 3-2 choke job. Not saying Turco choked against the Avalanche in the opener Thursday. In fact, he made a lot of acrobatic saves earlier to allow the Hawks to climb back from a 3-1 deficit, but he failed to glove a shot he should've gloved --- had to glove --- and I had the fear he'll be just good enough to break your heart.

One game in...Let the comparisons begin. Whatever!

Stastny had a good game, sometimes it just bounces in. Even the best goalies of all time gave up an unscreened goal from 10 feet away. It would have been less of a soft goal had Turco not touched it.

It will be a good test tonight, raising the banner, then playing the rival Red Wings, who handled the inept Ducks last night. Watch for Turco, who does not like a certain Swede standing in from of him at the net.

Don't blame Marty, blame the stupid management who couldn't handle the cap right.

Do you get the Centre Ice package? Or are you stuck with the CBC offering like I am?

Versus has a game on right now Yotes-Bruins. 9a.m. for me, my old eyes can't keep up :)

I'm enjoying the game too but the Yotes in Prague...you don't suppose...nah it couldn't be....could it?

I'm watching the game as well. A nice crowd in Praque and Phoenix is the designated visitor. They never get to play in front of decent home gate.

Actually the announcer said they sold out the last month, first time in playoffs had to get the Wings. If they had started against the Sharks they might have gone further

No they would have gone further! :)

I like Turco, and these comparisons, and making Turco sound like he's really got anything to do with Niemi legacy, or historic value, and the kid hasn't proved he's a better goalie, only that he played behind a better team, of which half is not there anymore!

Silly comparison, for silly reason!

October 9, 2010  04:36 PM ET

I'll blame Turco. The guy's a washed up bum with a bad attitude. I'd have paid the extra .75m for a young, quasi-proven Niemi any day. Not like they couldn't have continued to shed another million somewhere else. I mean, they already dismantled 60% of the team or whatever. But, such is life. I'm rooting for you Turco, if only because I have to.

A hockey fan in Seattle I thought Portland was Blackhawks country so any word on imploding the Key and building a real arena down there

But who would you rather have for your goalie Niemi or Turco .Now if they got rid of the trapezoid and/or they think Crawford is the real deal than Turco any other scenario I'd have to sat Niemi

Turco.

I wanted to watch the Hawks-Wings play, but by the time they applauded the owner, coaches, players, and the guy that cleans the urinals, I stuck with Pens-Habs

I ate a wondeful dinner, watched the Stones on BluRay Live at the Max, over-indugled in happy hour on all fronts, watched F1 qualifying and am about to watch Canucks Kings.

Pens-Habs was an option and I didn't feel like it because it wasn't HD.

October 10, 2010  11:39 AM ET

I never thought about the pressure Turco must feel, hearing your team introduced as the Champs and as the goalie he had nothing to do with it. He's let in two soft goals in two games.

My ears are burning

October 10, 2010  03:36 PM ET

Would Niemi have saved that shot? Naw, he would have downed it and ordered another one.
