10:04 AM ET 10.10 | Last spring, Gary Chouest, a local billionaire, reached an agreement in principle to buy out George Shinn, the Hornets' original owner. But according to a league official familiar with the Hornets' rocky ownership situation, the deal fell apart. That's bleak news for Hornets fans, who were hopeful that Chouest would come in, spend money on talent, and get Chris Paul to change his mind about leaving. But it's a great development for the Knicks and Nets and every other team that has its eye on Paul, who becomes a free agent in 2012 and has told associates that he wants to play in New York with Amare Stoudemire.

seriously....who really thinks paul is staying in new orleans....there isnt enough left for the hornets to even acquire to satisfy paul's need for more talent...all the top players are locked up now and melo has his eye on the east coast.

poor chris paul. hes got crap for a team. i can see him joining melo wit the nets or knicks, they have money to spend.

This is NY. The greatest city in the world. That's just how it goes.

Is that why they got all that talent this offseason? we heard that same thing for a year while the knicks tanked the season for 2 or 3 years because "This is NY , Everyone wants to play for coach dandummy" How did that workout for them......the sad thing is CP# is still under contract for 2 years not just one......does this mean we got to here "this is NY for two damn years"

Apparently everyone doesn't feel that way. If they did, some of the rumors would come to fruition. Instead, after the all the hype, the players end up somewhere else. Here's a novel concept--why not build your own organization instead of waiting for pie in the sky.

Of course he will - it is a trade value act so he can negotiate the terms of his trade.

So we can have another supper team with all of the stars who got cut out of the LeBaby deal.

Probably somewhere like the Nets where another billioniare owner does not care how much money he looses or integrity to win.

When is enough enough - this sport is no longer a sport. I will say it again, it is a popularity contest. The team with the coolest location, GM and money gets the stars!

What happened to stars transforming teams to championships, do any of these guys want to work hard and overcome ....

Oh wait this is the NBA my bad ....

He is definitely leaving

QUOTE(#19):

but in fairness- 15+ years ago there was no big time $ to be made in free agency and player movement was simply not really an option, cause it just wasn't doneyou cannot compare todays NBA to the past as the labor terms are different

your correct with that...this kind of money was unheard of back then. But I will say this the stars crying to get out of their contracts is so not good for the league, this is flooding the news and just your everyday fans are being turned off by the entire thing......

The funny things is when boston got the big three KG didnt want to be traded at all..he revoked the trade once and they had to go back to him and convince him to come to Boston

October 10, 2010  12:53 PM ET

Why is he so set on NY? Didn't he say he wanted to win?

this is from a New York Paper so i would be hard pressed to believe anything they printed...all last year they had stories just like this about every damn free agent and none of that crap was true......so you got to look at the source
