How bad are Gators QB's injuries?

10:38 AM ET 10.10 | Florida QB John Brantley gutted out near-heroic fourth quarter with bruised ribs and a sprained thumb on his throwing hand. Brantley suffered both injuries in the loss to No. 1 Alabama a week ago and was very limited in practice the week leading up to the Gators' 33-29 loss to LSU. Florida coach Urban Meyer said Brantley was unable to throw during at least one practice. During the game, ESPN's Joe Schad reported Brantley had cracked ribs and a broken bone in his throwing hand. A Florida football spokesperson said the report was wrong and Brantley reiterated that in his post-game press conference. Asked if he had cracked or broken ribs, Brantley said, "No, they're just banged up." Asked if his thumb was broken, Brantley said, "It's just sprained, just minor thing." "There was never no doubt that I wasn't going to play," he said. "I knew since Monday or Sunday I was. They're just a little banged up. Nothing too serious. Nothing you can't play through."

its not the injuries, its the offensive coordinator, the offensive line and the lack of offensive weapons. florida doesn't have the offensive weapons it once had. and the idiot calling plays is not capable of changing his play calling to maximize the players he does have.

Meyer its tie to bring in a real offensive coordinator. you will not find one (minus addazio's family and meyer himself) who thinks that addazio can carry dan mullen's lock strap. its frustrating to watch.

the only thing that is missing is if addazio would of said "its change you can believe in".

If they call that crappy dive play one more time, I'm gonna puke. When you see it's not working after the 12th try, QUIT CALLING IT. Sheesh. At least late in the game, Burton starting pulling it out on the dive play and running it around end, and got some yards out of it.

But the bottom line is we're a re-tooling team with an underachieving line and few playmakers. We could have won last time, but had no business winning. There seems to be little improvement week-to-week, and that's on the coaches.

And the orange jerseys? Really?!?

They wore those back in the '70s and '80s when we were usually crappy, why dig those out now? An omen of our future possibly?

Despite what he said, I can't help but think those injuries affected Brantley's play.

Not only affected Brantley's play, But the Gator's performance... That may not improve until Brantley can get that thumb and those ribs healthy-- OUCH!!

The vaunted SEC is not so "vaunted" this year...

... not that it was ever about the conference.

What you have are "teams" and some are going through transitions.

Florida is adjusting to a new QB and expected to struggle in doing so.

I agree. what conf is "vaunted" this year though?

This is not meant as a dig at you, but I get so tired of how every single weekend people rush to the blogs to decalre that this conf is overrated or that conf is now the best. We wont really have a good idea of which conf is best until the bowls have been played. ....it's always that way. Now we have a lot of conf games going on so now we'll start to see every conf racking up the losses. When SC beats Bama does that mean the SEC is weak? When UF falls to LSU that means the SEC isnt vaunted? When Stanford beats USC by a last second field goal does that make the P10 vaunted? When Oregon State beat Zona does that count againt the P10 like when LSU beats UF? It's all a bunch of gabaldigook. Yes, I said gabaldigook.

I agree, man.

I'm from the Old School where conferences didn't matter as much as teams. The traditional powers were traditional powers regardless of the conference.

The Big 8, SWC, Pac 10, SEC, it didn't matter... good teams were good teams.

Even if the SEC goes 5-0 in bowl games and the Big 10 is 1-4, does that mean the SEC is better? Not in the general sense.

In my view it's all about teams and each conference has good and bad.

I also believe that a good team can compete in ANY conference, and that includes Boise State, TCU, and Utah.

Yes lol...

... I wanted the Bruins to be the Pac 10's top dawg.

Guess it's not happening this year.

Why did they include "injuries" at the end of the thread title? Works w/o it too! :)

Really? I think you give him FAR too much credit. He seems like more of a "Mission Accomplished" kind of guy to me. "All hat and no cattle," as Texans might say.

The dive play worked great against LSU last year when Tebow was still suffering the effects of the UK concussion, but this year it fizzled. Maybe "the hat" did watch some film from last years game, eh? Our biggest issue the past 2 weeks is lack of running game. Demps was the workhorse the first few games this season, and without him, we've got nothing (and I'm including Moody in the nothing category).

Oh, and I liked the orange jerseys. I hope we keep them. I also like the white top/orange pants combo when playing on the road.
