It's amazing how many players that little country produces.

October 8, 2007  07:35 AM ET

so much for Wenger claiming he wouldn't be dropping huge sums of money in favor of developing talent.

October 8, 2007  07:44 AM ET

20,000,000 quid? This kid must be pretty good.

October 8, 2007  11:14 AM ET

You would think that Man U have the lead in this given the relationship with Sporting and the fact that Ronaldo and Nani have adapted so well there.

I miss my David Beckham rumor of the day fix! (DC)

October 8, 2007  11:54 AM ET

That's a good point Fred, but at the end of the day I imagine it's just the highest bidder.

October 8, 2007  11:56 AM ET

arsenal has a lot of money to spend. their revenue is higher than man u and chelsea

October 8, 2007  01:54 PM ET

do man u need another portugese middy? we are pretty much set for the future in midfield with nani, ronaldo, carrick, anderson, eagles, and hargreaves. but depth never hurts

October 8, 2007  03:22 PM ET

unless he's a winger, don't bother...

October 8, 2007  03:49 PM ET

He's a defensive mid.

October 8, 2007  04:55 PM ET

we are still set

October 8, 2007  05:01 PM ET

Well weren't they saying that the board is giving Arse 70 million pounds in January?

If true I don't think Maneww or Reds will be getting that kid.

October 8, 2007  05:40 PM ET

Arsenal already have too many defensive middies. if they go after him, then it will spell the end of Gilberto at Arsenal, unless he is willing to move into central defense.

Like Fred in LA alluded to, he comes from the same school group as C. Ronaldo and Nani at Sporting (and btw is a traitor to SLB). Portugal has proven to produce players in batches and it is good to be alert.

October 8, 2007  06:42 PM ET

In Wenger we trust if the kid is good he will force his way into the club, he will already have a good start with Cesc and Miguel speaking the same language and if that is what AW sees as his future he will go for it

October 8, 2007  07:06 PM ET

He's coming. No doubt in my mind

October 9, 2007  12:19 AM ET

if AW feels some one is good he usually is , except for francis jeffers all his buys were amazing

October 9, 2007  11:37 AM ET

LFC doesn't need an other holding/defensive midfielder, I doubt they make a run at this kid, and if he goes to Manure, than Sporting is devolving into nothing more than a feeder club for the Mancs...

Oh and Wenger does know young talent OUTSIDE of England very well, most of his young English players have been busts (the jury is still out on Walcott)...

even though he's not a FC Porto (my team) player, I've had the opportunity to see him play. He has a great future, probably even better than his father(captain of Benfica in the 80/90's).
Just one more thing : arsenalfan4ever, Miguel and Cesc do not speak the same language, Miguel speaks Portuguese, Cesc Spanish/Catalan(mixture of Spanish and French, spoke in the Catalan Region of Spain). Even though there are alike, there are many differences.
