07:14 AM ET 10.09 | Trent Green's future with the Dolphins -- and his future in the NFL -- could remain a clouded mystery for several weeks as medical experts attempt to provide their professional opinions on one of the most controversial injuries in sports. The Dolphins believe Green sustained a Grade 3 concussion, the most severe of its kind, but would not provide further insight or analysis into a diagnosis. Backup Cleo Lemon has been named the indefinite starter to replace Green while he is out.

dumbass should have retired

October 9, 2007  08:21 AM ET

Maybe one more concussion before retirement. That way he'll have the just right number of neurons left to qualify him for political office.

October 9, 2007  09:21 AM ET

I think it is time to hang it up. There isn't much point in risking permanent brain injury, especially when you are on a losing team that has no chance of making the playoffs. The Dolphins would probably be better off without Green. At least they can see what they have with Lemon and Beck before deciding to take a QB with the number 1 overall pick.

you might get to see john beck this year..

October 9, 2007  09:26 AM ET

Did anyone see Jason Taylor on the sidelines while Green was down? Shaking his head, not only with concern for his teammate, but upset that he had actually CALLED this in the off-season?!?

October 9, 2007  09:29 AM ET

I think i read somewhere that each concussion makes the next one a bit more likely. i understand that these guys are a different breed, hyper competitive and all, but for the love of pete. Shut it down Trent. You wonder where the line between being competitive and being selfish is.

Green needs to hang it up. dolphins13 said it all, a losing team with no chance of making the playoffs. Get Lemon some reps at this point.

Yup, I agree with everyone on here (except for the nimrod that called him a dumbass). Green needs to retire.

That lineman on the Texans also needs to figure out where that little part of his soul went that keeps people from doing obnoxiously spiteful things to the helpless and weak.

When I saw highlights of that guy doing that I had to turn off my TV and just go outside for a while. I was done with football for the day.

It was bad that he taunted/yelled at an unconcious/injured Green; however, at first I withheld judgement because he saw his career flash before his eyes as Green took out his knees (carrying around his 315lbs) on the block. Sometimes, in the heat of the moment, people react based on emotion rather than logic. I don't think that makes it ok, but it happens. But, when they interviewed him after the game and he stood by his actions, I was disgusted and disturbed. How can a man possibly think screaming at a man who looks to be dead is at all justified?

Great guy ba situation

October 9, 2007  10:08 AM ET

I bet the Dolphins and Cam Cameron are kicking themselves in the a*s*s for releasing Culpepper!! Guess it's back to square one, AGAIN!!!!

Yeah, what he said....adios amigo....

October 9, 2007  10:14 AM ET

Hopefully his doctor has the stones to tell him he isn't playing anymore. That would be the best thing for him.

October 9, 2007  11:01 AM ET

culpepper was not the answer for the fins neither.why does everyone think culpepper looked so good against the fins ?? he threw for like 80 yds and ran in 3 short td runs.it wasnt culpepper that beat the fins,it was the raiders running game that beat them.

October 9, 2007  02:06 PM ET

well Green shouldn't have thrown that block....as for browardcane....i think Cul....did beat the fins....he accounted for all the points put up except for the extra points b-cuz he doesn't hold the ball....

October 9, 2007  02:18 PM ET

He'll be wearing one of these for his next start.

October 9, 2007  04:01 PM ET

Troy Aikman and Steve Young were both smart enough to retire while they could still think clearly. Trent Green should follow thier lead.

October 9, 2007  05:49 PM ET

What's the difference in Trent Green a QB going to take out DT Travis Williams knee vs Travis Williams on a sack going after Trent Green's knees?? There is a double standard & T Williams' has a point as well. Just b/c the QB is the franchise why should they be protected more than DT's or anyone else on the field?? Aren't everyone's body & limbs the same? But, my one question is where were Green's teammates when Williams was hovering over him when he was unconscious last time I checked his OL should be willing to stand up & fight for their QB or did they not respect Trent. But, Trent got what he deserved he tried to do something that he isn't accustomed to doing & got poetic justice. However, I don't believe you should ever taunt an opponent whether they are hurt or not, it's just class-less. You can lose all your respect for a guy for what he did, but still you have a game to play next wk & you may never play against Trent Green again so you have to bottle that anger up & use it against the next wk's opponent.

Trent: Please retire before lasting brain damage occurs. You can do broadcasting like Young and Aikman do now.
