Among those likely to receive consideration upon Tony La Russa's departure would be third-base coach Jose Oquendo, minor-league field coordinator Jim Riggleman, Atlanta Braves hitting coach Terry Pendleton and former Florida Marlins manager Joe Girardi.

I gotta believe with all of the Skipper openin's open I will be seen at a ballpark next year running a team like a Siberian gravel pit boss.

Girardi makes much more sense for this job than the Yankee job.

He would have the makings of a good team in place, upper management that would be on the same page as he right from the get go and an ownership who is planning to open the off-season wallet.

NY is a pressure cooker and despite what the press thinks, he is still too green for THAT job. THIS job makes sense for him.

Hmmm, come to think of it, THIS job makes sense for anybody. Mr Torre? Mr DeWitt Jr on line one..........

Torre has already managed the Cards Babe

Hold on a sec...did I miss something...when was it reported LaRussa is definitely gone? I might have missed it but can someone let me know?

Honestly...I would jettison Willie in NY so quick and pick this guy up in a hot NY minute. Just a thought.

I refuse to eve recognize the Cards...Hell, it'll be a cold day in hell before I recognize Missoura as a state

The truth why do you even waste your time talking

October 9, 2007  11:19 AM ET

Terry Pendleton should be the next cardinals manager simply because he is and always has been a fan favorite in St. Louis and he has been learning from one of the best in Bobby Cox and he played under Whitey. St Louis needs TP to bring Whitey ball back to st louis.

October 9, 2007  11:54 AM ET

Tom Herr or John Tudor would be the logical choice

October 9, 2007  11:57 AM ET

Considering I think Girardi is going to be the new Yankee manager, I am going to go with cardsfansince82 and say Terry Pendleton. It doesn't look like Bobby Cox is stepping down in Atlanta anytime soon, and Pendleton is ready to manage now so why not go back to the Cards.

October 9, 2007  12:01 PM ET

Why do you? Cardsfan
