Falcons coach Bobby Petrino defused two potential problems -- for now. Petrino said Monday that Joey Harrington would remain as the team's starting quarterback for Monday night's game against the Giants, heading off a quarterback controversy involving Byron Leftwich. The first-year NFL head coach also said he spoke with frustrated tight end and team captain Alge Crumpler to address Crumpler's critical remarks about the coaching staff and the direction of the franchise following Sunday's loss. Petrino would not divulge specifics but described the talk as "decent."

He's wishing he was back in Louisville with Brohm at QB....

He is loving his paycheck but hating the drama. The team has great players but they need time. We knew this was not going to be a winning year I guess we all get frustrated, I know it is hard for me to watch.

Harrington's actually been doing ok. I'm suprised they even have a win... I don't know what Leftwich was doing in there Sunday. He threw the ball into the stands 3 times, and the sad part is that he was aiming for a receiver...

Welcome to the Pros Petrino, the Exit is to your right.

October 9, 2007  09:02 AM ET

They are lucky to even stay close and win any games with the mess and drama Vick left behind.

Crumpler should just worry about catching the balls that are thrown to him, rather than trying to be critical of the coaches he has. I haven't watched too many Falcons games this year (or any, for that matter) but I know Crumpler isn't doing what he did for this team 3 or 4 years ago. He was REAL bad last year, couldn't bring the ball in for his life, and now he wants to get critical? Do your own job, then worry about everyone else's, Alge. You want more passes thrown to you? Make something out of the ones you ARE getting. Is Petrino this year's Nick Saban? Looking like it to me...

October 9, 2007  09:22 AM ET

what can you say, they are who we thought they are..

October 9, 2007  09:22 AM ET

Its still a bit early to write Petrino off just yet. It hasnt even been half a season yet. You ATL fans back away from the knife. If things are going this way next year, then start yelling. We know a lil something about patience down here. Now i have to get back to praying for Andre Johnson's return.

October 9, 2007  09:26 AM ET

This isn't the Cardinals, Petrino. You didn't have a good reason for benching Harrington for Leftwich unless you thought Leftwich was better. This is a situation where he needs to make a choice.

Sticking Leftwich in there to test the water and announcing that Harrington is still the starting QB is just going to create tension his team doesn't need.

Bobby, take a page from the Billy Martin Guide To Management.

Bring in those disgruntled players. Hear them out. Consider their words carefully. Give great weight to their suggestions.

Then kick their *** out the door. Nobody needs #%$#@%^&&*^ whiners and complainers on their #$%@*& team.......

October 9, 2007  10:10 AM ET

Mike Vick would have made it worse, if that's possible.

October 9, 2007  10:26 AM ET

A receiver complaining about not getting the ball? I've never heard of such a thing.

October 9, 2007  11:14 AM ET

Hey Algae, you mouth breathing slime ball, TO just called and said you need to simma daan nah....

October 9, 2007  11:18 AM ET

Louisville is where this man should be. Bad choice, eh Petrino?

October 9, 2007  11:43 AM ET

Talk about wanting to go back in time. Maybe if Louisville drops a couple of more games he can get his job back, and leave this terrible experience behind him.

ghostofthebabe has it right. Those who want to gripe and carp can look over their shoulder to make sure the door don't hit ya where the dog shoulda bit ya. (pun intended).

One of the great things Parcells did for the Cowboys was to get rid of the deadweight cancers on the roster. Now they have a fairly streamlined group of team players. (Not all, but many)

October 9, 2007  11:54 AM ET

Don't worry. Next year Brian Brohm will be the Atlanta Falcon Quarterback. It all just makes sense.

October 9, 2007  01:02 PM ET

Keep in house business in house, Alge. Besides your are playing more like Carlester at the moment any way

What controversy.? Whether it's Harrington or Leftwich, it'll be the same result.
