Wannstedt wallowing in recent past?

08:37 AM ET 10.12 | When a struggling team turns to its conference games, it often tries to metaphorically wipe the slate clean. Pitt coach Dave Wannstedt thought about using that approach Sunday when he met with his team for the first time after the Panthers' 23-17 loss to Notre Dame. The Panthers' next game is Saturday at Syracuse for their Big East opener. But he decided not to take that approach because his team is young and learning. So the best teaching points he can make is by pointing out the mistakes the players have made in their first five games.

A real forward thinker, that Wanny.

His season has fallen apart fast.

Pitt has played Utah, Miami FL and Notre Dame.

I give them credit for not playing a cupcake OOC schedule this year.

The Panthers and West Virginia are still the class of this year's Big East.
We'll see how the rest of the season goes.

"pointing out the mistakes the players have made in their first five games." = "Wallowing in recent past"

Okay. Some people might call that "coaching", though.

Agreed. I always thought that working to correct mistakes was one of the primary duties of a coach.

True, but Wannstedt Looking for Ways to Correct Mistakes doesn't get your article picked up on the national outlets.

What the heck post is this? And my mom went to the grocery store with a list but decided to throw it away. Who gives a rip!

I am a casual fan and I could come up with 3 better posts in every catagory then these damn interns - one reason why in most topics one thread has 500 posts and the others average 30 at this hour.

The Big East is 2-11 against BCS OOC competition and 13-15 overall against FBS competition. Most of this is due to the poor play of inexperienced offensive lines and quarterbacks. This condition stretches across the entire conference and Pitt's starting guards, center and QB are perfect examples of the problem.

Wannstedt's coaching may be open to criticism, but this year's team (and the Big East in general) wasn't going anywhere. One of the teams with 4 conference homes games will improve enough win the conference.

I just love the guys that come on this site and rip the choice of threads. If you don't like it here Einstein....go elsewhere to spread your cheer.

Who's your avatar?

Cheryl Bernard.

She was the skip for the Canadian Women's olympic curling team. I started watching the curling matches strictly by accident and found most of the womens' teams had some hot looking gals.

I popped that avatar on last week after a conversation with some of the regs in the hockey threads. We were debating tastes in fine looking mature women. The avatar doesn't do her justice IMO.

She is an awesome mature woman, but do you have nothing to add on this thread too?
Pitt has underachieved for some time now and it doesn't look to change anytime soon. WVA will win the BigLEast.

Being a Pitt football fan is like getting beat with a bag of oranges about six times a year.

I was going to post earlier about how the Panthers dug themselves a hole in both the Utah and ND games, then managed to get back in it and could have won both if not for critical mistakes....but that would sound like excuses, I hate that.

They have new starters at QB, O-line, and secondary. They have also lost AA DE Greg Romeus and MLB Dan Mason. Every team has to deal with new starters and injuries though.

WVU looks the best in the league right now. We'll see where the Panthers go from here, but I really think this team could go either way.

PITT seems to have alot of young talent on the roster, for Wannstedt to work with... But considering it all either Wannstedt has lost his ability to coach talented player; Or the young Panthers are going to turn ther season around in a hurry.

Can you say bye bye now.

Wannstedt couldn't lose what he never had in the first place. This is entirely on coaching and nothing else. Trust me, I'm a Notre Dame fan. At this point we're EXPERTS in coaches underutilizing talent to produce mediocre results.
