08:31 AM ET 10.12 | With big-money clubs in the mix, the bidding promises to be fierce. [Carl] Crawford brings great speed, exceptional defense and is younger than [Jayson] Werth (Crawford is 29, Werth 31). ... Crawford is expected to be a prime target of the Yankees, who need a top-of-the-order presence now that Derek Jeter has reached the twilight of his career. The Angels are expected to be major bidders as well, which could easily place Crawford in a position of commanding a seven-year deal in excess of $100 million.

He's a productive player, no doubt, but $100M? Really? But OK Yankees, keep piling up those big contracts. Carl Pavano might be available for the right price too.

Def a great move for the Yanks, but $100 mil might be a bit much Crawford's greatest asset is his speed and as he gets up there in age that assest won't be as valuable....they should def make a move but don't get crazy e.i. AJ Burnett

I am not for the Yanks making a run at Crawford, but someone will pay him. 100 over 6 or 7...not 20 per.

Yeah, he hits .290 or .300, hits about 12 HRs, drives in 80 runs and steals 40 bases... and is a good outfielder. Maybe we should call him the black Shane Victorino

Price vs. Lee, right? I have to lean towards the Rays, but it should be a good one.

Cliff Lee will be priority #1. After paying him and resigning Derek and Mo, I'm not sure they could afford another big contract and still keep their payroll around 200M, which they say they want to do.

How much of that payroll was created to keep their own players? Cannot fault them for that. The difference is the guys they get to supplement the big names. Granderson, Tomlinson, Gardener, Woods, and the like, that is the part that separates them from the other high payroll teams.

being a Yankees fan i would like to see them add Crawford since they need another outfielder & this would take a good player from the division rival !

with that said i would not give him 100M...maybe 80M for 5/6 years !

by adding Crawford who would play CF & would that move Granderson to LF ?

I think that is right.

If you are going to set off the trap you should at a minimum do it with stronger language.

Me too. If the Yankees lose, it will be because of their starting pitching. And how much longer can Pettite be counted on to step up in the post season?

I agree jnorm. Pitching wins championships, add Lee to staf with CC, Hughes, maybe Pettitte for 1 more year and a straightened out Burnett and they would pretty darn good. I like the outfield the way it is and I don't think Crawford is worth 100 mil+. He'd be a get fit on the Angels.

Crawford does not want to play center, he has made that clear.

As a Yankee devotee I think he will end up in pinstripes. They currently have three really good outfielders so I don't know where he could find a place to play.
