Theodore surprised by lack of interest

08:51 AM ET 10.12 | Jose Theodore didn't think he'd have to wait by the phone. Theodore never thought it would take so long to be a part of any team. He finished the second of two seasons in Washington by going 20-0-4 down the stretch of the regular season as his team headed into the playoffs. But when free agency began, no one called. "I didn't see that one coming," he said. "Last year, for most of the regular season, look not only at the record -- because, obviously, we had a good team -- but look at the save percentage [.911 in 47 games]. ... I thought the phone would ring earlier, that's for sure. But it's all part of the game. Right now I know I'll be here for the home opener, and I'm really happy."

Jose is a class act and I like him. But he came up short in big games (especially playoffs) an awful lot. Could have been due to outside pressures. His son died last year I think. In any event I wish him and his family well.

He's the only one surprised.

I did not know that about his son, my sympathies to him and his family.

But in fairness, Theodore had plenty of weaknesses prior to that occurrence, not the least of which is coming up short in big games.

At least he has a full head of hair.

If it could stop pucks that would be a good thing.

Very good guy, personally, but come playoff time, everyone's lost faith.

He just needs a little gel. Prevents rebounds.

And damn good looking. If I had known what was behind that mask, I wouldn't have cursed at him so much during Caps/Pens games. ;)

I am sorry to hear about his son. Can't imagine it...

Good luck to him.

LMFAOROTF! HAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA! That was by far the funniest posts I've EVER read! Surprised at the lack of interest! WOW!

Buddy you are living in a dark cave by yourself!!!!! You have trouble keeping the puck out, and your #'s were ONLY becaus eof your team, and stop riding the coat tails of that undeserved Hart win, and sit DOWN on the bench, and be very, very, very thankful you are there!!!!!

LMAO!!!!!!

Did I laugh yet at this? Yeah! Well here goes again, HAAAAAAAAA! Surprised........HAAAAA! LMAO! Sorry can't help it, the man is a sieve, and only won that award due to his team putting in 5 to 7 goals a game. .911 sv%, and a 2.90+ GAA. The Stanley Cup winning goalie couldn't garner any interest, but this french man, doesn't get it, and once in net for Minny, he'll show his true colors, and go 7-30-7, which is a more accurate read, had he been playing on any other team practically.

Gotta agree with that. Jose had one fantastic half season and thought he was the second coming of Roy. He hasn't been worth a damn ever since on the ice. His numbers last year are do to his team basically scoring at will every night. S****y goal tending and a huge ego aren't good for a long career. I do feel extremely bad for the man and his family for the tragic death of his son. I remember hearing about that at the beginning of the season.

This year will be telling. Was it him or Washington's offense. Oughta know by December. I kind of hope he does well, tho. He's been thru one of the hardest things for someone to go thru and it's nice to see good things happen to them.

That's actually not true. Thre were many games last year when he kept us in it as our D collapsed in front of him. One game against Detroit stands out in particular. I believe he faced close to 50 shots, maybe more, as opposed to maybe a third of that for Osgood and we still won, 3-2, I think, almost soley because of him. He was very, very good in Jan. and Feb. but once again came apart in the playoffs.

I like Theo a lot, he stood tall for his family and son during the latter's prolonged illness and eventual death, never complaining or using that as an excuse. But at the same time, and not meaning to sound harsh, I'm not disappointed he wasn't re-signed.
