08:19 AM ET 10.13 | While Jacory Harris has been pronounced "fine" by Randy Shannon, the state of the football program may be another matter according to some of its prominent alums, including Michael Irvin, Gino Torretta and Melvin Bratton. "You can blame the coach, you can blame the players. To me, it's a state of emergency right now," Bratton said. ... "Is it the weight room? Do guys need to spend more time studying, dissecting plays? I don't have the answer. But what I don't see is any urgency. I don't see that fight. And that is inexcusable."

When Gino Toretta and Melvin Bratton are mentioned as references who cares. Shannon is awful, Harris is a turnover machine and they're living on the legacy of 10 years ago. they're an amazing collection of athletes who have no coaching, no clue, no discipline hence no chance of beating a good, very good or excellent team. Ohio State just out worked them, out schemed them, FSU did the same. Keep making your big U sign but start chanting Under achieving, Under whelming

You can't beat good teams with a QB who gets the deer-in-the-headlights look and plays that way. It was real evident in last year's bowl loss versus Wisky and I saw it in the OSU game. As for Randy Shannon, I've been saying it for years.....he was the D-Co-ordinator on Coker's staff. There is no reason to believe he can bring the 'Canes back.

IMHO It's the lack of "killer instinct" and the lack of leadership (being vocal as stated in the Miami Herald)! Perhaps a possible change in "personnel", give other players a chance to shine

Still Randy Shannon has instilled a more disciplined effect in regards to stressing education, yet some fans fail to realize this, and perhaps they want to refer back to the old days during the Regan Administration!

Just like the previous coach for the buckeyes John Cooper when 'everyone' was screaming he couldn't win the big games (ie, consistantly losing to Michigan etc...)?

John Robinson, Paul Hacket (USC Trojans)

The lists go on and on...

It's a matter of time when the "U" get over the hump, however their past glory is really hindering such patience and want to refer back to the "THUG U" era....

Who put a microphone in front of Melvin Bratton? Shut up, dude.

If I had a dollar for every time Michael Irvin opened his mouth I wouldn't have to work for a living.

Gino Torretta? Seriously? What's next? Ryan Leaf calling out the WSU coaching staff?

October 13, 2010  09:38 AM ET

Who was the Miami alum doing play by play of the FIU game when the huge fight broke out? The guy who was on the radio saying "Not in our house!". There's another Cane that should never speak publicly again.

As my friend SVT said to me after the FSU game. Time to replace the coaching staff before the program slides deeper into disarray.

disarray how?

I'm sure people would state that Randy Shannon's accomplishments has been a steady increase in education and in wins since he's taken over the past 4 yrs....

My guess is SOME of those guys have put some money back into the program that they helped to build, and they want to see it back again. I can't blame them for wanting to see their alma mater rise up again. Are they going about it the right way? By the way, Gino Torretta is still the worst Heisman winner ever!
