08:25 AM ET 10.13 | While its season's aspirations slipped away quickly, Virginia Tech still has its positive stories. Don't look now, but junior split end Jarrett Boykin is on pace to rewrite most of Virginia Tech's receiving record book. Coming off a career-high eight receptions for 117 yards in Tech's 45-21 rout of Central Michigan on Saturday, Boykin has boosted his career totals to 91 catches for 1,683 yards and 11 touchdowns in 33 games. With a minimum of 18 career games -- likely more -- left at Tech, Boykin needs only 36 catches to surpass the school-record 126 receptions set by Ernest Wilford (2000-03) and 590 yards to top the receiving yards mark of 2,272 established by Ricky Scales (1972-74).

By all accounts it couldn't happen to a better kid. Good luck Jarrett.

A minimum of 18 games left for the Junior? If he's this good, why is their no consideration of foregoing his senior year.

Oh, right, there is no NFL.

Wilford, Scales? Not exactly household names. Still, nice going young man.

Is this indicative of VT being a formerly run-heavy offense?

I think so.

Not bad for a no name school that has only reasonly emerged and with a run first - of course the record is that Tennese cat with like 420 something.

I have a feeling our defense is going to do all they can to get him these records.

Good point. School records of 126 receptions & 2,272 yards just tell me VT is not exactly a wide receiver factory...

He will feel even better about the record when he knows that his efforts lead to an 2010 ACC title...
