Cubs to name Quade before Series opener?

08:21 AM ET 10.14 | What's taking the Cubs so long to name a manager? The official answer is that in leaving no stone unturned in their search -- as general manager Jim Hendry promised in July -- the process has progressed as expected, with ownership interviews of three finalists already completed. That might put the Cubs in position to be the next team to announce a new manager, especially if the new guy is presumptive favorite Mike Quade. But the Cubs are in no rush to conclude the process for at least two reasons. For one, they don't have to. ... The other reason for the deliberate pace, of course, is New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi.

Doubtful girardi takes this job. Can be totally wrong though.

I would be surprised if he does also. Although if the Yanks suffer a total collapse he may look to get out of town

really does anyone care if the Cubs even play next year......they perform the same every year and couldnt win with Jesus sitting on the bench....move on to next subject and quit wasting space here with "Cubs and baseball" in the same sentence

The Cubbies are still waiting for a few more "thanks but no thanks" responses to come back before they settle. I wonder how many years the new manager will get for his contract. Since I don't expect Hendry to last longer than one more year, will they burden a new GM with Hendry's choice for additional years?

i'm a cub fan, so i'd love to see them get girardi. but i'm pretty confused here. why does anyone think he's leaving ny to come to chicago? oh wait, no one does, except a handful of journalists in chicago who probably know he's not coming but they gotta write about something. memo to si: just b/c a sports reporter writes it doesn't mean it bears publishing on your site.

Ryno is the front runner . Why else would he go down to minor league for OJT . Certainly not to be a coach in the major league but to be the Cubbies manager !

Why is it that I'm not surprised that the cubs are going to screw this up too! First, why would Girardi come to Chicago when he has a good team to manage in NY? Why are they supposed to be picking someone like Quade? Just because they won some games at the end of the season doesn't mean he will be able to accomplish the same thing next spring! They have Ryno waiting in the minors, someone who knows the players in the minors and their abilities. I hope IF they pick Quade that the loyal cub fans will revolt and attendance goes down even more than it has. Ryno is the man for the job - if they don't pick him - I hope he goes to some other club in our division and kicks the cubs butt. Because of these "stupid" decisions they are making, my steadfast loyalty is diminishing, QUICKLY>

There going to screw up this pick just like they've screwed up everything else. Why is there a decision - RYNO is the man! If not, I hope cub nation deserts the team, they would deserve it.

October 14, 2010  01:28 PM ET

Seriously. It won't be Ryno. If they had any intention of it, then it would be done by now. We aren't getting Girardi (could have had him a few years ago). We're getting stuck with Quade or Wedge. I'm a Cubs fan, but this is such a joke. They don't even know what direction to take the team. Ricketts will be the new McCaskey in Chicago soon enough.
