08:28 AM ET 10.15 | Coming off career lows in home runs and RBIs, a current Yankee may find a high-altitude fix. Asked a few weeks ago about the Rockies' most pressing need, he blurted "an impact bat." The options range from fascinating ( Victor Martinez, hello) to reclamation (Conor Jackson). Here's a name to file under intriguing: Lance Berkman. The Yankee will soon be a free agent, and he won't be returning to New York. The Rockies kicked the tires on Berkman at the trading deadline. "That's a place that I would definitely have interest in," Berkman said here Thursday.

I don't want him back in the National League. This guy kills the Cardinals.

I thought Berkman still has an employer. Perhaps he could pay a little bit more attention to his current job.

He is a professional hitter. Diminished but can be productive.

NL has fewer dominant pitchers, so Lance would be better off there.

Good Idea. The Rockies can feed him some of their juiced balls and before you know it he'll be a 40 HR guy again...

Humidor, they dejuice them, but mile high air is what it is. No science classes in the gaykingdom?

After the WS Berkman will have his ring. It will be yet another ballplayer having had his career turned around and a peice of hardware to go with it, the Yankees expierence. I say by all means Lance go for an opportunity to play regularly and poss. make more money. Just thank our classy organization as well as its classy fan base for this opportunity extended to you. We tend to do this for a lot of struggling ballplayers, superstars etc. At least now no one can call you a loser having never won anything ever again. A simple thank you is good enough for our org. and its fan base. So long Lance.

Oh yeah, he should thank them...
He filled a need, this was not charity, they haven't won anything yet.

Notice how Cain stayed away from this remark. Of course, he's probably down at the school bus stop right now.

With Helton staring at the end of his playing days, the Rockies will need another Sweet Swinging Elder Statesman.
