08:30 AM ET 10.16 | It's no secret that Darrelle Revis is eager to fully recover from a nagging hamstring injury, but two days ago he may have been a little too hurried for his own good. The All-Pro cornerback was pulled over for speeding shortly after 8 a.m. on Thursday, on his way and running late, he says, to Jets practice. Revis was ticketed for careless driving and going 81 mph in a 40 mph zone on West Northfield Road in Livingston, N.J., approximately seven miles from the Jets' facility in Florham Park. "You've got to slow down," Rex Ryan told his star after noticing Revis was late for a team meeting.

Now that he has that new contract, I'm sure he can afford the ticket and the increased insurance premiums.

at least he wasn't drunk, and he did not run anyone over...

October 16, 2010  08:36 AM ET

was he in a company car?

And there weren't any traffic cops on the hood of the car a la Randy Moss.

Nice to see that his hammy wasn't impeding his ability to accelerate off the field...

October 16, 2010  09:12 AM ET

how stoned was he?

My first thought also...

Guess the hamstring isn't affecting his lead foot.

Given how little he is working, one wonders what he was up to the night before to make him run late to practice. Couldn't be exhaustion from anything football-related.

....but there is still plenty of time left in the season.

And there you have it, all you "Just give the man his money" guys. So now he has his money...and now you have the first chapter in the ongoing saga of Gilligan's...I mean Revis Island.

81 in a 40 MPH zone? THAT'S not so bad. I've been popped for worse.
The 40 MPH roads around here, are like freeways. Four lane and looooooooong

81 in a 40 mph zone is bad. If it's a 40 mph zone, it's not a freeway. Meaning, there are likely pedestrians and kids on bikes nearby. It was reckless and he's lucky no one got hurt.

Didn't mean to trip your trigger there wwj --- yes --- he was a very bad-boy. He could have hurt somebody. It was mostly sarcastic rhetoric anyways. I still went to jail, paid a hefty fine if that makes you feel any happier :-{
btw - notice I said "around here, the roads are like freeways" - that's cutting through miles of nothing but farm land, forrests and orchards. Hence the sarcastic nature of my comment.

Sometimes I have to remind myself of a couple of things - there are less fortunate people who live in stacked housing and share the streets with a million or more folks....my heart goes out to them. (more sarcasm) - and the fact that sarcasm does not transfer well onto the screen.
Enjoy your weekend :)
I'm going fishing for Sturgeon down on the Columbia river tomorrow morning. The neighbors cat just had a litter of fish bait!

SO WHAT!!!!!!!!! Is this the best SI could come up with a day before game day?

October 16, 2010  05:55 PM ET

And just think, How much did the Jets give him to end a hold out and he has not even lived up to his end of the contract. This is exactly why the Jets should have not paid him and let him sit out the year, he has yet to help them at all this season. In fact he has hurt them

October 16, 2010  09:29 PM ET

What a bozo Revis is. He should have hurt himself in the process with his reckless behavior...

Seems like the law is not applied to athletes. He does 80 in a 40 zone, likely in his Schitillaic Escalade, but it's OK. These guys are a total crock. what a turn off......40 miles over the limit in Jersey is an automatic revocation, first offense. Want to bet he don't lose his license. His lawyer will handle it, while he makes like Mr. goodie 2 shoes...
