08:43 AM ET 10.16 | Carmelo Anthony still hasn't signed an extension offer from Denver, and so the speculation continues about where he will end up and when, with the Nets and Knicks as leading candidates. But the reason Anthony remains the subject of trade rumors is clear, according to his former Syracuse coach, Jim Boeheim. "He wants a place he can win," Boeheim told the Daily News Friday. "And I hope he can do that. He's in the prime of his career. He'd be a great foundation to build a franchise on."

The grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. Denver has tried to use him as a foundation to build on. Why does he think it will work somewhere else? Time to look in the mirror Melo.

Carmelo wants place he can win
We will probably never hear the whole story--but Carmelo has some issues with Denver. If he were looking for a place where he could win, there are a lot better choices than the Nets and Knicks.

Big question for Melo....Is which way is Denver going Up or Down? ....this is the team that traded Camby to the Clips for a 2nd round pick to get cap relief a few year back...Camby for NOTHING ...... end of the year Who going to be on the Denver Team....Martin, Smith FA's, Nene ETO, Billups part guarantee contact ( can you say Salary CUT ) .... so who left Melo if he signs, Birdman, Balkman, Ty Lawson,.... Afflalo is a RFA, Harrington even has a Player Option, Karl last year of his contact. .... Sounds to me like Denver is a team going DOWN !

the place for Melo to win is w/the knicks. He will have amare already. If the knicks can hold onto galo and not trade him on the melo deal, that puts galo as a backup to melo. That makes the bench extremely strong. Than the knicks still will have money to get yet another max FA when cp3 becomes available. Melo and Amare will make them a dangerous playoff team, but they can hold off for just next year like that. Than get cp3 who of course will take the knicks max offer since he will be joining Melo and Amare and no other team will have that talent and money to offer CP3. That will give the knicks cp3, melo and amare on the same team and that is simply a championship caliber team for the next 5 straight years.

I am sorry, Melo is simply a top 10 player. All players need something around them. Look at LBJ and Kobe right now. Both are the 2 best players in the league, no doubt. Niether were able to win by themselves. Kobe was openly stating he wanted to be traded if the lakers did not do anything, which they did, they went out and built a very good team around him. Cavs did not do that and they lost LBJ b/c in this league U cannot do it alone. Even when Jordan played, he couldnt do it alone either.

THANK YOU. People do not see this. NYK's are a team on the rise not falling or cutting salaries anymore. They are rebuilding, nice young talent and have a lot of money to spend. 2 max FAs over the next 2 years. They have placed themselves in great shape. Now the knicks are attractive unlike this summer b/c they already have an allstar on the team in amare.

I think Denver is very much a team in transition. You can spin it a number of ways and you point out one of them. Still, you gotta admit this spin is the worst case scenario. Kenyon Martin's contract has been flying under the radar as one of the worst in the NBA and it comes off the books this year. It'll have a lot of value come trading deadline and may become a large piece in Denver's future.
Either way, you're spot on with the Camby trade. Denver mgmt chose to get under the salary cap and shed a HUGE contributor for a 2nd round pick (nothing).

but Denver and NY will both be under the salary cap and both can offer a max contract to Melo. That gives Melo a choice to sign with Denver, (which they will have no $$ left to do anything), or Sign with NY that already has Amare on the team and the following year will have more money for yet another max FA. Melo is looking 5 years down the road, not 1 or 2.

" He'd be a great foundation to build a franchise on."
Not so sure about that.
He doesn't seem the franchise player type to me. More of a great secondary player.
Has he ever been much of a leader in Denver?
I believe even Billups is more of a leader on that team than Anthony.
