One of the two would-be sports marketers who allegedly made improper payments to Reggie Bush while he was still at USC has agreed to meet with NCAA investigators and claims to have documentation of financial transactions between Bush and him, according to a source close to the investigation. Bush has repeatedly said that neither he nor his family did anything wrong.

Well gee golly gosh...From what I've heard (mostly on these boards) only Florida schools break the rules and recruit "thugs". I'm absolutely stunned that this could happen at squeeky clean USC.

Uh-Oh....do I see another Marion Jones occurance coming here? Will the Heisman be given back? Will wins be taken away? Better yet...do I really care??

October 10, 2007  08:55 AM ET

Does it really matter what they do? Its like the fab 5 thing in michigan, yes technically they never existed, but cmon everyone still knows and remembers.

October 10, 2007  09:03 AM ET

Yea, the kids that are at SC now would be the ones that would end up paying the price IF anything happens. This is about as bad as the steroid investigation...

October 10, 2007  09:12 AM ET

Bush would lose teh heismann at most. He might be required to repay back all the money he earned, but it's a drop in a bucket to him now.

October 10, 2007  09:15 AM ET

eyesWIDEopen: Now Bush is a thug?? What classifies a thug? Because I only see that label being applied to black athlets. When white athletes get into trouble they're just stupid, but when it's blacks, now they're thugs... WTF??

October 10, 2007  09:18 AM ET

Okay, like always someone has to drop the race card...I'm done, the posts just turned stupid.

October 10, 2007  09:21 AM ET

So just because Bush isn't there we shouldn't punish the coaches and the program? If something happened they should have known about it if they didn't. The NCAA has already set the precedent when they took actions against OU. OU was even proactive to fix the problem and right any wrong before the NCAA really knew anything about it. OU was self reporting and USC is trying their best to avoid the situation. If there is something to this case they should definitely be penalized as a program. The reason all this matters is because if programs are not open about their faults and avoid situations like this we can't assume this hasn't happened before. Some of these top programs don't need extra benefits and it just hurts the competitiveness of college football the more we let things like this go.

The consequenses could be similar to those levied against Michigan when Webber was busted for taking payments from a booster. Their basketball team was banned from the NCAA tournament for 2 or 3 years and lost scholarships.

October 10, 2007  09:27 AM ET

But that will never happen to USC and their football program...too much money to be had with them in the BCS hunt every year. They'll get some silly slap on the wrist, drag Bush's name and his experience at USC through the mud and it will be forgotten.

October 10, 2007  09:56 AM ET

Since I have nothing serious to say about this story, all I need to say to Reggie Bush is hold on tight to Kim Kardashian. Her and them sisters of hers...umm!!!

October 10, 2007  09:57 AM ET

Reggie BUSH IS A BUST B-U-S-T

October 10, 2007  10:17 AM ET

Kim Kardashian, nice point! great as.s......

October 10, 2007  10:32 AM ET

Great point Jerzz,.
Most great athletes in College are receiving some sort of benefits whether its a full ride plus no classes and still graduate or a new car and new clothes. NCAA should give a stipend of somesort so athletes are not looking to get money elsewhere.

October 10, 2007  10:44 AM ET

About time.....USC start quaking in your boots right about now!

October 10, 2007  10:49 AM ET

Nothing will happen! Our well placed and well monied Alumni will see to that! You haters will cheer but those in the know, know that NOTHING will happen.

October 10, 2007  11:00 AM ET

Bush is alledged to have gotten a lot of money not just a little stipend's worth. OU got busted by the NCAA big time for an incident that they found out about that involved maybe $15000 combined. OU didn't condone the action and took immediate action to correct the problem. They still got in huge trouble and if this is true USC deserves worse. I have been around a major college program and there are a lot of major legal benefits the players receive. The players could use a small cash stipend, but they already get a lot out of their contribution to the athletic program. They receive great educations, tutors, study aids, world class fitness programs, priceless contacts, unforgettable college experience, and their living experiences are paid for. The only thing that a football player doesn't get is a little spending money which I agree they should get, but this is not the case of a little money. These players also receive tons of stuff in the form of bowl gifts and team gear. I bet Bush over his stay at USC in the form of just bowl gifts received several xboxs, dvd players, ipods, watches, tvs and clothes.

Jerzy Man, I didn't call Bush a thug. People regularly accuse the Florida programs of recruiting "thugs". Any time someone who plays for a Florida school does ANYTHING wrong, ALL Florida programs are attacked and pinned with the "thugs" label. If you understood the context of my post, which you obviously didn't, you'd know that I don't like the label either. That's why I put the word in quotes - other peoples' words, not mine.

October 10, 2007  11:07 AM ET

Reggie bush isn't a "thug", he's just a shameless cheater.

Really sad how he will not be affected, only his school. How does ESPN feel now making him the 24th GREATEST NCAA FOOTBALL PLAYER????
