Hawks, Horford to butt heads on max deal?

09:02 AM ET 10.17 | Al Horford is good and getting better. If he reaches restricted free agency next summer, which would happen if he and the Hawks cannot agree to an extension agreement by November 1, Horford will be in high, high demand. All that isn't getting the Hawks to accede to Horford's contract demands, believed to be a max value extension like the one Kevin Durant received. The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports there has been no progress on talks between Horford and the Hawks. Suddenly shy, the Hawks are believed to be looking more toward the range of Joakim Noah's $60 million deal than Durant's $80+ million contract.

Just pay the man, Bros.

October 17, 2010  09:28 AM ET

Like Jack says, pay him. If you Hawks don't, another team will.

October 17, 2010  09:29 AM ET

Yea, that's gonna get ugly, especially with the amount of money they poured in J J's pockets.

Horford is the closest thing the Hawks have to a center, and unlike Noah, the player they can least afford to be without. They've got to pay him.

I think he should go to the thunder this summer

And Chicago has backup Centers Kurt Thomas 38, and rookie from Turkey Asik, ...oh and broken down Boozer....not much more / maybe even less then Atlanta with Zaza P and Etan Thomas

It's irrelevant what each team has. Horford is what Noah would be if Noah was a proven, efficient scorer. If he was allowed to play his proper position (PF) he'd be a 20/10 player. In a league where Joe Johnson and Rudy Gay get max deals, Horford will get a max deal from some one.

This guy is not a max player. 14 and 10 is not max money.

October 17, 2010  03:12 PM ET

Hmmm. Horford, Williams and Crawford, plus picks for Melo.....

Or better yet, here goes.... Horford will be on the Knicks....

October 17, 2010  08:03 PM ET

Rather pay Al the money than the $120MILL+ JJ got.

October 17, 2010  10:07 PM ET

They would actually have had money left, had they not extended Bibby for 4 years by THAT much and giving that dumb **** Marvin Williams his fat contract. For both those contracts, Hawks were bidding against themselves!! No other takers at that price. Madness. Sheer madness.
If ATL lose out on Al, I'm withdrawing my season ticket status ( Ive been a season ticket holder 6-7 years now)

too bad he cant play pf with smith in there, like another person said, imo he would be much more effective. Max money no, but he might get Andrew Bynum money12.5mill,13mill, Bynum put up similar numbers last year in his first year of his contract 15 and 9,or 8.

By giving two consecutive max contracts to 3rd option sub-all star players, the Hawks are on their way to guarantee 5 years of decent regular seasons followed by first round elimination.

If I was living in Atlanta, I would go to the games only to watch the big visiting teams: Lakers, Heat, Celtics, Magic, Spurs. I would not bother going to games to watch Al Horford and Joe Johnson. You don't build a championship contender around complementary pieces like that.
Do they get regularly a full house in Atlanta with a line-up of such pseudo-stars?
