Penguins may sit disappointing Fleury

11:12 AM ET 10.17 | Coach Dan Bylsma was uncharacteristically candid about -- and critical of -- the work of goalie Marc-Andre Fleury in the minutes following a 4-3 loss to Toronto Wednesday at Consol Energy Center. His team had outshot the Maple Leafs, 25-14, and had held them, by Bylsma's reckoning, to about eight scoring chances. That wasn't enough to generate a victory, however, and even though he did not specify a goal for which he held Fleury accountable, Bylsma said pointedly that, "there's a time when [Fleury] has got to come up with the save."

I'm sorry, I was at that Toronto game, the entire team played like garbage and only outshot the Leafs in the 3rd period. Putt the whole blame on Fluery for that one is not legit.

Doesn't much matter to me. The leafs are ripping it up so far. I know its still early but, what a welcome sight for the first time in many years for the leafs.

Just another guy who's been hanging around a getting a couple cups of coffee. He played for the Caps, didn't he?? He was good there, and then got injured, and never got another real shot. I don't think he'll keep it up for long. I don't know what the matter is with Fleury, as he has been shaky at best. I don't think the T.O game was his fault, but there has been many pucks that he should have had, but got by him.
I hope he finds his game soon.

Johnson is 3-0 and .100 pct higher in Sv%. Fleury is still the franchise goalie, but sometimes you need to ride the hot hand.

Fleury needs to focus. He's been out of sorts since the Olympic Break.

I know that, and agree.
There are some that are even mentioning the "T" word though, and it's the start of the season. Granted the guy had some lapses in net in the playoffs, but overall has been pretty solid. I don't get why people are so quick to judge, and change in some cities, ex: Price in Montreal. Price looks pretty good so far, but will he be as good as Halak by seasons end? He's had 2 solid years of mediocrity, where Fleury has had a lot more success, and not all by the hands of Sid. He'll get his game going(IMO).

hahahaha - that's a good one. Red Wings are walking wounded too, with no cap room.

exactly - Fleury is a Cup winner, and the franchise, he will be back soon enough.. if Johnson is hot, then don't mess with a good thing.

Agreed. I was there too. The blame isn't all on Fleury.
I am not sure how I feel about this Fleury situation. All I know is that now Bylsma has made it a controversy. I can't I say I respect him for it.

Not only ride the hot hand, but get the team as a whole adjusted and playing better. The team is stinking, throw in the backup, he does his job and wins, get the team playing better and work Fleury into a lineup that's playing better. That's the job of the backup. You listen to the calls on the sports shows and not too many understand that. The biggest issue is this POS power play and Fleury has nothing to do with that.

I'm not for burying Fleury on the bench for games at a time, but dammit, I'm sick of his inconsistent play. Someone (Bylsma, coaching staff, Lemieux, whoever) needs to make it clear to Fleury that he isn't guaranteed the number 1 goalie spot just because he was the number 1 overall pick and won a cup. Sure, Fleury has been great in the past, but the last part of last season and his early play this season is disgusting. He's been out of position, letting in soft goals, and has had terrible rebound control. Sure, some blame can be placed with the defense with Orpik and Michaelik out, but it can only go so far before it comes back to the goalie. I'm not a Fleury basher, but this guy needs to wake up. He needs to return to 09 playoff form. I'm hoping this whole Johnson thing will be similar to Conklin a few years ago. Its a little different because Fleury was injured that year, but he came back and played great, perhaps sensing his job might be on the line. Nobody can get in Fleury's head to see whats wrong, he just needs to return to his play of a few years back.

Yep yep. Fleury will be back sooner rather than later. But there's absolutely nothing wrong with sitting him since his head has been up his arse thus far this season.
