08:21 AM ET 10.18 | Tony Dungy is not an option to follow Tim Brewster. [AD Joel] Maturi will conduct a national search and look for a coach with similar notoriety to men's basketball coach Tubby Smith. As was the case with Smith, the mid-season move (Dan Monson resigned under pressure from Maturi and others) gives the University time to look for a worthy replacement. "We're out here to find somebody that people can recognize, people have confidence in, and are going to bring instant credibility and notoriety to the football program," Maturi said. ... "You're not following Vince Lombardi here," Maturi said.

So is Steve Addazio... and Scot Loeffler...

It's kind of funny that a report came out and said if he lost this past weekend, he would be fired and he came out and flatly denied that report. Then they lose and he is fired.

What "big name" coach would want to coach there ? He would be destined to fail. It is harder to recruit in a pro sports team town.

He needed to be put out of his misery... Seriously, what coach would want this gig.. I know its Big 10 and all

There will be a lot of coaches line up for the job but you are right- it has to be one of the more unattractive places to coach in the nation.

Mason's sittin' pretty in a BTN commentator's chair. Besides, how does Minnesota bring him back after the way they jilted him?

I was being facetious.

They get rid of a guy that wins 6-9 games a year to try to get to the next level. This is not the 30's and 40's anymore. Minnesota won't see the likes of that anymore. Brewster came in and ran the program down. Hopefully they can get a guy that can recruit, but also has good assistants that can coach. I say give the job to Ed Orgeron so he can replenish the pantry, and then bring in a coach after three years to win with what the Ogre would have recruited. Look what it did for Ole Lady and Houston Nutt.

I bet Osbourne was having breathing problems..I did say NU was going down when that NU fan was all up on you last week.. Funny thing they acted like they were much better than Boise/TCU :)

I thought about the NU guy as the Horns were laying the smack down. Your defense wore the black shirts this weekend.

I'll admit the program isn'tin a good place right now, but that said you could argue the Gophers basketball team was in even worse shape before Tubby Smith decided to come to Minnesota.

The football team has a state-of-the-art stadium, a decent core of players brought in by Brewster the last two years who have yet to play much, and deep pockets thanks to the boosters. I'm sure there are plenty of successful mid-major school coaches who would jump on the opportunity to coach a Big Ten team (and get a pay increase), especially when there are almost zero expectations going in.

Yea, Tubby likes to fish!
