10:29 AM ET 10.18 | He may be fourth in the standings, but Jeff Gordon is starting to lose hope in his title chances after a 23rd-place finish at Charlotte. "We race to win every weekend," he said. "So that's all we can continue to do going forward. Things are not looking good, but we'll just keep going and get to the next one and see what happens." Gordon led seven laps in Saturday night's race at Charlotte Motor Speedway but car issues soon plagued the No. 24 team, as it struggled with alternator problems and a battery that died during the race.

Great driver but his best days are behind him. When he got married this time, the end was fast approaching. Then the baby, that was it.

I wonder if the staff at T&R finally realized that if we get some articles, we do comment on them. Hopefully the throwdown guys don't wreak havoc on us.

Perhaps Hendricks needs to pull the horseshoe out of Johnson's tailpipes and replace the "Restrictor Plate" (in his head) in Gordon's with Johnson's horseshoe. I have to believe Jeff Gordon has seen his better days for the reasons already stated by JK.

Thanks for an actual chase story, T&R.
I agree, JK, once Gordon had a kid he lost his edge. Frankly, it happens to a lot of guys in a lot of different businesses. You wait, if Kyle gets married his production will fall way off. It's just a fact of life.

I must be in the wrong place on the internet.. or maybe its the Bizarro internet. There is actually an article on T&R about the chase?

Rickapolis; the wedding ring does seem to change most drivers. Are you talking about Kyle's production on track LOL.

Wife texting me during a race to bring home a gallon of milk certainly would be distracting.

i dunno if thats it, or if old man Hendrick has put all of his eggs in the 48's basket now....Gordon was Hendrick Motorsports when he had Evernham on the pit box, then he won a title with Loomis, bus since, hes not been there...
im willing to bet that if the 48 had another crew chief other than Knaus he wouldnt be anywhere near as dominant....

October 18, 2010  11:37 AM ET

I truly believe with all your comments that Jeff has seen the best of his racing days,I like him as a driver, and a person, what he has he has earned, nobody can take that away from him, thats for sure.

The Wife excuse is good....but, how do you explain Kevin Harvick with wife Dana "Fire Suit" on the pit box,....hmmm maybe more wives need to wear Fire Suits and work too!

October 18, 2010  11:39 AM ET

They could have simply titled this article, ''Every Driver in NASCAR Watching Title Hopes Slip Away To Johnson''.

Possible but I haven't thrown Hamlin out yet.

We know whose basket he hasn't put the eggs in. As for the Johnson and Knaus team, that's a given. They have the chemistry that all owners dream about. One without the other would be very good but not awesome like they seem to be together.

Not throwing him out here either, but he is inarguably giving up ground with each race.

Errosion is not an instant event, only an inevitable one.

Shell and sponsors don't complain a bit, as long as they keep the logo on the camera, it could be larry the cable guy

I pretty much agree with all comments ... And Gordon may be just burned out.AND.... No question that lack of an adequate crew chief has killed him. I can not recall the last time Gordon has improved during the course of a race. I hope he retires, or he'll end up diminishing his successes even more.

He does have that side job to fall back on in retirement...... sitting in with Kelly Ripa for Regis.
