07:01 AM ET 10.12 | Illinois coach Bruce Weber hit the biggest one-day recruiting jackpot of his career Thursday, as three of the top players in the Class of 2009 -- Warren's Brandon Paul, Peoria Central's D.J. Richardson and Sterling's Joseph Bertrand -- made oral commitments to the Illini. Paul opened eyes nationally with his play during the spring and summer. He also was receiving interest from Marquette, Notre Dame, Iowa, Iowa State, Florida, USC, Texas, Baylor and Clemson.

You got to be kidding, Hova. Weber HAS proved he can win with great players. Remember Deron Williams, Dee Brown, Luther Head??? National title game in 2005??? Sheesh. There should be an IQ test before you're allowed to post on these boards.

Maybe he's taking recruiting tips from Zook

October 12, 2007  10:38 AM ET

And by taking tips from Zook, you mean he learned how to deliver a suitcase of cash without arising the suspicion of the NCAA...

I don't think Weber pays his recruits in cash. He pays them with booze and fake i.d.s.
It's still too early to see if the rankings stay the same. Most likely other players below these guys will leapfrog them, and dUI will be looking at maybe 1 or 2 top 100 recruits.

College coaches really arent measured by national championships it seems. You always hear about how many final fours a coach took a team to. Hova, are you saying that Jim boeheim or Roy Williams weren't good coaches until they won the big dance?

Hate to be a downer, but oral commitments don't mean much in college basketball. That snake in Indiana probably calls them twice as much.

Kelvin Sampson is a genius recruiter. Eric Gordon is going to be better than Durant was last year. He's that good.

Weber HAS proven he can win with good players.......I don't think there is any question about his coaching ability......it's been his ability to recruit that is the problem. This is a nice win for him to land these players, and hopefully they will turn the program back to the upside. And.....the crack about Zook paying players is BS...... there is not one shred of evidence to back that up.....not one insinuation or anything........

"Kelvin Sampson is a genius recruiter. Eric Gordon is going to be better than Durant was last year. He's that good."
Kelvin Sampson just got nailed for about 10 recruiting violations at Indiana, what a surprise, makes you wonder doesn't it if all was on the up-and-up when he sleazed his way into getting Gordon to play in Indiana after his long-term commitment to Illinois. Hope the Hoosier fans are proud that they've hired a guy run out of Oklahoma for doing exactly what he's now doing in Indiana. Barf.

"Kelvin Sampson is a genius recruiter. Eric Gordon is going to be better than Durant was last year. He's that good." That's from IrishR#1. So I just read that this genius just got nabbed for at least 10 recruiting violations at Indiana doing the same stuff that got him run out of Oklahoma. Some genius. Makes you wonder how much of his persuasion of Gordon to back out of his long-standing commitment to Illinois (and look a little lacking in principle doing so) was due to Sampson's "genius" and how much might be do to shenanigans. Hope IU fans are proud to have Sampson represent all that's best in Hoosier basketball.

Wow, a joke about Zook paying his players is hitting a little too close to home for you Illini...and looking back on it, I shouldn't have compared Weber to the low life, **** that is Ron Zook, the man proved yet again this weekend that he is a terrible football coach...

October 14, 2007  11:23 PM ET

Hawk- I go to the university of illinois, and everyone i know jokes about how zook pays off his recruits. so i dont take offense

October 14, 2007  11:25 PM ET

and hova obviously doesnt know what hes talking about. excluding the '09 class hes gotten 2 four stars to commit to illinois, thats it. when he had the talent he went to the national championship. combine webers coaching ability with zooks bank account and wed have one hell of a basketball team

October 15, 2007  01:20 AM ET

Why so much anger towards Illinois? Zook has never been in trouble for recruiting and never will. Have any of you me a real salesman? That is what he is. That is it.

Irish#1,

You made a bold comment above. K-Dub was one of the best freshmen EVER. Players like him comes along once every what 20 years and you have already identified one that will be better next year. WOW!

I like the kid Derrick Rose to be the best freshmen in the country next season (Memphis).

Weber is a very good coach. However, he hasn't done so well with in state recruits in particular. His own nephew said no to him, for Duke. Couldn't blame him but I would be on him at every family gathering. I would kick my brother's butt every time I saw him for raising such an independent thinking kid.
