06:37 AM ET 10.21 | Theo Riddick's absence this weekend doesn't just rob Notre Dame of a premier offensive playmaker. It opens a hole on kickoff return, as well, and the scramble for a solution left Brian Kelly channeling Chuck Barris. "Right now, it's The Gong Show," the Irish coach said after Wednesday's practice. "We've got everybody back there. We've got (Austin) Collinsworth and Bennett Jackson, Jonas Gray we've activated, and those are the three guys. That's the rotation right now. We're trying to figure it out as we go. Only two can get on the field. So somebody's going to get gonged."

the state of ND football is absolutely pathetic. Seeing a daily thread about our mediocrity is more depressing than if the nation would just ignore us for a bit.

Ya know, I kinda agree with you. I'm not sure why there is a daily ND thread...this one about special teams depth.

No, Floyd said he is playing but Theo won't be. How much Floyd plays is the better question, my guess would be less than 15 snaps. Not really too concerned, this years Navy team isn't very good, look it up.

he won't be playing much if Navy's offense holds true to form...

This is appropriate since ND football is still a joke. Maybe BK can host Hee-Hew next?

O yea of little faith!
ND is improving before your eyes. It took on three very good teams (UM, MSU, Stanford) at the start of the season and clearly learned from the experience. No pushover FSC teams to start the season.
It is learning new offense and defense schemes under a new coaching staff. It's offensive players were recruited to play under a different, pro set, system, and Dayne Crist's up 'n down QB play shows that he is not yet comfortable with the spread offense, if he ever will be.
Their defense is better than it has been for the past three/four years, and is showing improvement each game. It is still undermanned due to Charlie's inattention to defensive recruiting, but it is showing improvements in fundamentals like tackling and linebacker positioning.
Let's wait until the $SC game before making any judgements about this team, and let's wait a couple of years before we turn on Kelly and his staff. Some ND supporters are like today's electorate, they want instant positive results no matter what the fundamental problems may be--looking for the Second Coming to bring a coach who has ND in the BSC Championship game talk immediately. Let's get real and appreciate the progress we are making, and support the kids.
Go IRISH!
