Jets want free-agent lineman

It's believed the only way the Jets will get rid of Pete Kendall right now is if Joe Andruzzi is signed as a free-agent replacement

Pete Kendall is a solid guard despite him being old. Unless someone else is signed that is younger and better, it is not worth it for the jets to get rid of him.

May 8, 2007  10:07 AM ET

Kendall needs to stay put. He's getting the job done and is an anchor and leader on that line. With the entire O-Line coming back, a solid running game now and Pennington (STAY HEALTHY CHAD!)...the Jets will need to be reckoned with.

May 8, 2007  11:06 AM ET

Pete Kendall maybe a good player, but he is a cancer to the locker room. After all, Arizona of all places cut him because of attitude. Andruzzi would be a better addition.

May 8, 2007  11:56 AM ET

Pete Kendall is a cancer in the locker room? That's a joke. I would like to see the basis of that statement becase based on everything I have heard and seen, Kendall is an excellent teammate- and last year he was credited for taking the rookie offensive linemen- especially Center Nick Mangold- under his wing. If Kendall, as a Jet, is now being judged by what happened in Arizona, which as a franchise has been a fiasco, that's unfair. Unfortunately, in this electronic age, sometimes rumors are started just by someone posting a factually incorrect statement- like Kendall being a lockerroom cancer. The statement is irresponsible and totally untrue.
If "Mercurio" really believes that Kendall is a cancer, why doesn't he call Eric Mangini? The coach has been on record with nothing but positive statements about Pete Kendall.
Now if the Jets do decide to make this move- it will be based on the fact that 1)Andruzzi is three years younger and rated about as good a guard as Kendall 2)Andruzzi will be cheaper than Kendall 3) Moving Kendall now will not just save money but also allow someone like Nick Mangold to take the reins of leadership on the Jets- because opposite from being a "cancer"- Kendall has been a lockerrom leader and perhaps it's time for a younger player like Mangold to lead. 4)If the Jets can actually get something in return from say Miami, who is interested in trading for Kendall, then it will only make the team stronger- especially if they sign Andruzzi as a hold the fort player.

It doesnt matter who the Jets get, they are going no where with Mr. pop gun arm Pennington. He can't stretch the field and throw more than 20 yards downfield. They had one of the softest schedules in the league last year too. They will be lucky to finish 7-9.

May 8, 2007  12:15 PM ET

During the Christmas night game last year where the Jets manhandled the Dolphins(as they pretty much have done the last several years), Joe Theissman continually dissed Pennington's arm strength. Well, Pennington won the game and took the team to the playoffs. And Theissman got fired!!!! It's real easy to say that Penington has this weakness or that, the fact is he is a winner, and actually has won more games than some quarterbacks who had rifles (e.g. Ryan Leaf). And for jsamson, an obvious Fins fan, to diss the Jets now based on schedule strength, that's a joke. Even with knowing the Jets schedule last pre-season, most "experts" predicted the Jets would not win more than 7 games, max. So, jsamson, take this opportunity (I thought these posts were supposed to be about Pete Kendall going to the Dolphins), to discount the Jets again. My prediction, is we will beat the Dolphins again, two times. And my final question to jsamson is- you diss Chad Pennington's quaterback- Do the Dolphins know who their quarterback is? Keep dissing the Jets, buddy, I'll be right here keeping an eye on you.

May 8, 2007  12:51 PM ET

The Jets did not manhandle the Dolphins, they were lucky to beat them.
Mr. pop gun arm will continue to throw dump off passses because he knows he cant down field with that rag tag arm. Its Penningtons first real full season without getting injured. He's more fragile than an egg. The schedule was weak and you'll see what a real schedule does for them.
Gag green will never overcome the Pats let alone the Fins. They are even second in their own city . The fish will beat the Jets all the time and the Jets will find ways to lose. J-E-T-S....Just End The Season.....

May 8, 2007  01:30 PM ET

Andruzzi and Kendall are mirror images of each other. You might as well keep the one you know.

For Jet haters (jsamson in particular) please stop making fun of Pennington's arm. The man makes all the required throws, and he makes them well. Your team's QB's arm is probably weeker.

May 8, 2007  01:34 PM ET

jsmason: you didn't answer the question: who is the dolphins' quarterback.
the record says it: the jets always beat the dolphins.
anyone (yes this means you "jsamson" who doesn't see this is as big a loser as the dolphins themselves.
so keep chirping about pennington.
chad pennington was the comeback player of the year.
loser, jsamson- who is the dolphins' quarterback.
first you commit slander on Pete Kendall- I knew you were a Fins fan. you are pathetic.
please stop.
get a life.

May 8, 2007  01:36 PM ET

jsamson seems to smarting from the results brought to bear in the new me-first culture of the huizenga-dolphins, quickly becoming the afc's answer to the snyder-redskins. you can thank mr. pretty, jason taylor, for training the younger 'fins in on-field stats-tallying that's good for the wallet, but not the win-column. you know when the patriots hire away your young up-and-comers while you're shipping in more stop-gap veterans, it'll be more of the same in dear old miami.
pennington has no cannon, it's true, but he has integrity, leadership skills, and WINS.
it's no accident the mangini-johnson-jets have a rag-armed, team-first winner at qb who makes the right choices while the dullphins chose to remain tied to an injured big-name headcase at qb who couldn't lead a rhino out of a wet paper bag, with a back-up plan of replacing him with another washed-up mediocre vet. just focus on your cheerleaders and enjoy your sunshine, samson, your team is keeping its hair trim, tidy, and powerless

May 8, 2007  01:38 PM ET

hey everybody posting on this thread: wouldn't you agree that anyone who doesn't even respond to the issue but takes time to diss the Jets when everybody knows the Jets ALWAYS beat the Dolphins, wouldn't you say that that person is a mental defect.
I mean anyone who would pick on Chad pennington after he won the comeback player of the year must be a real loser, a real mental defect.
Hey JSamson, you are a mental defect. Hahahahahahah.
The Dolphins passed on Brady Quinn and took an injured unaccomplished wide out (YATIL GREEN anyone?).........
THE TEAM YOU ROOT FOR IS AS BIG A JOKE AS YOU, JSAMSON......
GET A LIFE AND GO AWAY.

All those weapons and i don't see the jets doing nothing once again this year..

May 8, 2007  02:02 PM ET

TN_FAN:
"All those weapons and i don't see the jets doing nothing once again this year.."

YOU DOLPHINS FANS MAKE ME, AT ONCE, BOTH SICK AND LAUGH!!!!!!
YOU ARE JUST A BUNCH OF LOSERS. YOU SAY THE JETS WON'T DO ANYTHING ONCE AGAIN:
ARE YOU CRAZY (WELL ROOTING FOR THE DOLPHINS DOES MAKE YOU STUPID, AT LEAST)?????
THE JETS MADE THE PLAY OFFS LAST YEAR, THE FINS DID NOT....
SO SHUT UP....
AND THE FUTURE? WHEN THE DOLPHINS DESPERATELY NEED A QUARTERBACK, AND A HIGHLY RATED ONE WAS AVAILABLE IN THE DRAFT, YOUR TEAM CHOSE AN INJURED WIDE RECEIVER INSTEAD.

AGAIN, TN_FAN AND ALL OTHER DOLPHINS, SHUT UP ABOUT THE JETS BECAUSE YOUR COMMENTS DON'T MEAN ANYTHING. THE JETS AGAIN MADE THE PLAYOFFS AND THE DOLPHINS DID NOT.
SO GO TO YOUR OWNER HUIZINGA'S BLOCKBUSTER, RENT AND DVD, AND QUIT YAPPING.
BECAUSE YOU ARE JUST COMING ACROSS AS REAL IDIOTS.

May 8, 2007  02:15 PM ET

Well sorry to disappoint you all, the Jets are second rate team, that plays in someone else's stadium ( nice green baggies by the way), that has a QB that has a **** shooter for an arm. Your schedule was one of the softest in the league. Pennington Bear was Come Back Player of the Year...Yippeee! Not that hard to do. Its a good thing that there a lot of wind at GIANTS stadium, it helps when Pennington throws the ball; now it can travel 5 more yars for a 15 yard completion. All is not lost though, you had Bellichick as a head coach....for a day.

May 8, 2007  02:18 PM ET

Yo, J Samson. If you knew anything about football, you'd know that the Jets' schedule and that of your Pats/Dolphins, whichever you're a fan of, is the same for 14 of 16 games. Only 2 games are different.

May 8, 2007  02:42 PM ET

I know plenty about football green lantern, the Jets schedule WAS ( as in last year Green 51) much weaker than that of the Pats, Dolphins. Too bad that the Jets will never get past the Pats or the Colts for the next decade. That must be a comforting thought. At least Joe Namath is still suave...him hitting on Suzy Kolber was great; maybe he can endorse Budwieiser or Jack Daniels. The Jets will be looking up at the standings THIS year, now that they play a tougher schedule. Never too early to start making top 10 draft plans.

May 8, 2007  04:25 PM ET

Lol.. jsamson...like all miami fans, already jumped off the dolphin bandwagon until they do something!!! love it!!! Why are you talking about the Pats or Colts,,, ur a Dolfag. As much you say the jets wont pass the pats or colts for the next decade.. you will never past the jets.. enjoy your season!

Dolphins fans crack me up. First of all there are more Jet fans (and Giant fans) in Miami then them. I was at the Jet/Dolphins game last Christmas (in full Jet gear) and saw more of us than them. Pennington wins games, unlike their QB's (although I like Culpepper and I wish him all the best once he has been released). Good luck this season with a 37 year old Green, or a 26 year old Mormon. Good luck Fins (you'll need it). See you at Pro Player this season. I'll fly down for that game again this season.
