Big Ten teams eye Irish guard
Minnesota football coach Tim Brewster could face his first major recruiting test this week. Disappointed in his playing status and having uneasy communication with the coaching staff, sophomore guard Matt Carufel received a short leave of absence from Notre Dame to consider his collegiate future. Academics are not a problem for the business major. A transfer to Minnesota or Iowa, or returning to Notre Dame, are options Carufel is considering. Brewster and Iowa coach Kirk Ferentz naturally are elated at the possibility of landing the former Mr. Football Minnesota and the state's Gatorade player of the year and Army All-American Bowl player. But they won't be able to recruit him unless he receives a release from his Notre Dame tender.

Maybe Jabba can destroy his future and only allow him to transfer to a school they choose. The Irish are an antiquated program that is desperately trying to stay relevant. I hope they lose every remaining game this year.

The buzzards are beginning to feast on the carcass of a once proud program. I'm no fan of ND, but I feel sorry for what's going on here. This seems like the bitter fruit of a situation that's been deteriorating since Holtz.

I just heard about this on the Iowa message boards, most people seem to think that he is definently leaning toward the Hawkeyes, who were his 2nd choice when he picked ND, he is supposdely also good friends with starting center Rafael Eubanks, though he has former HS teamates on the Gophers as well...
