Jackson questions Garnett's opinion

Kevin Garnett he told The Times that, despite the fact he has a home in Malibu, he didn't want to depend on a Lakers front office he saw as ineffective. Phil Jackson said it wasn't even a solid case. "Where did he get his information from?" Jackson said. "What does [his] statement mean? Does he even know our organization?. . . . I don't think anybody has a better winning record as an owner than Jerry Buss. . . . He doesn't want to win? I just kind of brush that off as not understanding the situation."

funny how jackson can question the organization and his players but the minute someone else does--- look out! kind of hypocritical huh phil?

October 14, 2007  11:52 AM ET

You're so right. This organization is what it used to be, destroyed by a big headed superstar.

October 14, 2007  11:54 AM ET

Didnt Kobe do the exact same thing?.. and Phil.

October 14, 2007  12:07 PM ET

Are the Lakers turning into the biggest whining babies in the history of the NBA? Blah blah blah. Leave Kevin Garnett alone. He's is by far the player with the most class in the league. Wish everyone in the Lakers would just shut up and play ball. They are shooting themeselves in the foot. And Phil Jackson, let's see...trash management over the summer now question Garnett? Yuck...I am no officially a Faker Hater. These guys are a joke.

Next to overrated, we can now say "delusional". It doesn't take a rocket scientist, or a "Zen master" to see what K.G. saw. All he had to do was look at the situation as it is and draw his conclusion. Perhaps K.G. didn't want to deal with Phil and his head games along with the Lakers front office. He (K.G.) called them ineffective; was he lying? Imagine if they pulled their heads out of their "rear ends" and traded Bynum and whatever else N.J. wanted for Jason Kidd. Not only would Kobe have been a bit more content, they might have had a chance at landing K.G too. Did they do that? I'd say K.G. had a good bead on the Lakers and what they "weren't" doing. Good call K.G. Now it will be my pleasure to watch the Celtics stomp them during the regular season. I guess not even the prospect of Nirvana teach a person class. What a joke he is.

Garnett needs to just win a "big" game before he fires bombs at one of the most successful franchises in all of sports. First of all, all franchises go thru down periods in their history. I'm not going to question Jerry Buss as he's proven over the years to bring in winners.

October 14, 2007  01:59 PM ET

Maybe not question Buss but definitely Kobe and Jackson. Jackson is a hypocritical a-z-z and I'm just calling him out on it.

October 14, 2007  02:01 PM ET

Don't hate on KG for saying the same thing you just said within the last few weeks "zen master." Wasn't he recently bringing up his uncertainty with how the laker brass was going and saying this may be his last season coaching? S-T-F-U jackson!

October 14, 2007  02:01 PM ET

Nothing more I hate than a hyprocrite.

October 14, 2007  02:04 PM ET

Kind of like Al Gore preaching about the environment when his personally owned zinc mine is the biggest source of pollution in his home state and his mansion uses 8 times the energy of the national average for a home. More left wing paternalistic bull-**** of do what I say not what I do.

October 14, 2007  02:17 PM ET

Jackson is one of the most over-rated coaches of all time. I could be a bum off the street and coach Pippen and Jordan, Kobe and Shaq to titles. The best coaches are the ones who don't have the best player in the game and lead their team, such as Popovich, Saunders, and Riley. The triangle offense is stupid and hasn't done anything for the Lakers. Buss should send Jackson and his "throne" to go coach some D-League team.

I like how you were able to connect politics to the NBA, van richten. Just keep in mind that not everyone shares your right-wing viewpoints on this site and they shouldn't have to. This is a NBA comment board, not a political one.

Oh, and by the way, if you want to talk about politics and the hypocritical, let's discuss conservative, Republican "family, moral values" and Larry Craig, shall we?

October 14, 2007  03:03 PM ET

Everybody knows that this has been drawn out far too long, but I can't disagree with Kobe even though he's been completely tactless this past summer. He makes 19 million per, which is not even as much as Michael Finley. Tell me how one of the biggest markets has one of the lowest payrolls and can't manage to find more help for somebody who's shown that with a supporting cast he can win consistently. KG hit the nail on the head because he was making 27 mil and still had a better team in Minne than Kobe has in LA.

October 14, 2007  03:45 PM ET

I think the headline read "Garnetts' Opinion." He's entitled to that. Anyone with any knowledge of the game can see Kupcake and Buss have been ineffective. So the question is what is Phils' beef.

October 14, 2007  04:08 PM ET

Life goes on Phil nobody cares about the showtime lakers anymore or even the lakers of a few years ago when they had Shaq and could compete for titles. The last couple of seasons out of LA probably remind him of Minnesota. It looks like Phil's luck has finally dried up so enjoy your memories because right now your nothing.

Was KG wrong? Is the Lakers front office a model of efficiency? The second generation of Buss's are mimbos and bimbos.

October 14, 2007  09:22 PM ET

Skippy..based on what?

October 14, 2007  09:24 PM ET

Notbychoice...you obviously care enough to post about the Lakers.

October 14, 2007  10:34 PM ET

You got me I care. Unfortunately KG doesn't care about how successful the Lakers were in the past he wants to win a ring now was the point I was making. Today's world is all about what have you done for me lately. Phil Jackson doesn't seem to get that.

October 14, 2007  10:51 PM ET

I disagree. What I got out of it was that the front office was the problem. If he wants a ring, he went to the wrong team because they aren't going anywhere. Look who they have running the team?
