Speculation surrounds Shannon's future at Miami

07:07 AM ET 10.25 | There's increasing speculation among Miami fans and alumni that Randy Shannon doesn't have what it takes to be a head coach. Dan Morgan, one of the best linebackers to ever play at the University of Miami, isn't sure what's going on at his beloved U nowadays. Disregard Saturday's 33-10 victory over North Carolina. This goes deeper than one game. This is about Shannon and the direction of the program. "I think Randy does a solid job," said Morgan, who played at UM from 1997-2000 and had Shannon as his linebackers coach for the first three years. "But I question sometimes whether he's head coaching material." Morgan, who handles pre-game analysis on UM radio broadcasts, isn't alone in that line of thought.

I like what Randy Shannon is doing at Miami.

Yeah! Get rid of this clown and go back to someone who will let the criminals run wild! I mean, who really wants a respectable program ... ?

"Disregard Saturday's 33-10 victory over North Carolina." How do you disregard a victory? What if the team goes 11-2? How can there be this much speculation for a team with a winning record and a possible chance to win the conference? I say let the season play out. If they fire a guy who wins the conference it would be pointless. It would also be crazy to fire him until after Jacory Harris leaves. A new coach would still inherit Jacory next year. Cam Newtons don't just fall out the sky from jucos.

Agree 100%.

Did SVT get a part-time job as an intern?

30 arrests and 1 national title and he'd be a keeper!

Randy Shannon makes $1 million and wins 9 of 12 scheduled games. To hire a coach that would run the table, UM would have to spend $4 million per year. That???s $1 million dollars per extra win! That???s too much. Right now the Canes pay a mere $111,000 per win. WHAT A BARGAIN! UM fans should be ecstatic that they have the best deal in college football. All Canes fans should join hands and chant ???Thank God for Randy Shannon.

Get your facts straight, Meyer has 2 National Titles. It's a 15 to 1 ratio.

Spam #7 has no prices listed. Must be the new guy.

Trying to win the RIGHT way, and people want to question his 'coaching ability'. All this while other (successful) programs are drowning in criminals. Who's willing to still naively claim that college football is not a corrupt business!

Winning the "right way" also entails teaching the fundamentals at practice and making sound in-game coaching decisions. Shannon does neither. Good guy doesn't always mean good coach. He has more than enough talent to win (top ranked recruiting class 3 years ago) so your "right way" remark (insinuating that UM has no talent because they don't have thugs) is baseless. Take your "high road" back to the NFL and worry about dog killers and players choke-slamming strippers while "making it rain."

Where in my previous comment did I EVER mention a lack of talent??? Maybe you should log off until you learn the concept of reading comprehension. Now, was that a low enough road for you?

Disregard Auburn's victories over Clemson, South Carolina, Arkansas & LSU and they STINK!
