NASCAR oil no longer dangerous?

Apparently, oil on the track is no longer dangerous. That's the only logical conclusion after the Busch and Cup races this weekend. In Friday's Busch race, fluid was flowing out of a car being pulled off the track and NASCAR still threw the green flag. Saturday night, Jeff Green's Cup car leaked so much that it looked like the frontstretch had been crop-dusted in an effort to sop it all up. But that only happened after Johnny Sauter wrecked. Before that, NASCAR let the cars keep racing. Then, after stopping the cars under a red flag for just more than 12 minutes, the cars ran a half-dozen laps under yellow while more cleanup was done.

Apparently, the drivers that NASCAR listens to didn't whine about the oil, so no cleanup was required. If Jeffie or Jimmie or Junior or Smoke complained on the radio, the yellow would have flown in a heartbeat.

What really suprised me about Sayurday nite was Juniors willingness to take it in the trunk from Jeffie. Good thing, I guess, considering who he will be hanging with next year....

Not sure what taking in the truck means gstrdr??

October 15, 2007  07:43 AM ET

Trunk, jack, Trunk. With an "N".

nothing is more scarey than hitting oil and having not repeat control over your car, and to have francecar act like they dont see it, after being known for throwing cautions for "debri" on the track says lots about francecar ...wasn't turn 4 bad enough friday night? wsn't the carnage enough? does someone have to get hurt? espn for once stood up in showing how bad greens car was pouring oil on the white line.. i think they only showed it once but it looked like it was being opoured out of a 55 gal drum.. there was a lot ..oil and water mixed.. bad real bad combonation.. francecar really needs to address this before someone gets really hurt..

Good morning gstrdr - I misspelled - Just sounds like Gordon envy, still dont understand the comment

Hey drflavio309,
Green's car left a huge mess as we all saw. Ya ever been on a "skid pan" where its nothing but water mixed with soap? I've had the pleasure and its fun when you hit it at like 25 mph and go all over the place. Now people have to image doing it at 180 and suddenly it ain't so funny. Nascar ought to think about perhaps immediately telling someone who blows up to stop ASAP and tow the guy in to limit the amount of oil dumped on the track. What do ya think????? Dumb idea?

October 15, 2007  08:59 AM ET

(gstrdr) I didn't get to see the race = had to work = you said jeff hit
or punted jr during the race ??? explain so I know.

SLY and good morning to all

Have to say I saw my first Kyle Busch fan at LMS. A girl had his hat on. Has anyone heard him speak lately - seems to have become humble and more mature. Hendrick told him to back off Jeff and he did.

October 15, 2007  09:05 AM ET

As for Francecar not taking care of the track = = well I would
expect nothing more = sometimes I wonder who's In
their tower watching for things like this. = Bad stuff .

Junior was running the nosebleed line most of the night. Jeffie was coming up thru on the low line. Junior moved low to block, stayed there for a few laps. So, Wonder Girl punted him. Then he kept whining to his spotter "Get me past that 8 car..." for the rest of the night. Sad, really.

jack, you must be kidding. You don't get "taking it in the trunk"? Sounds like denial. So, how much of a Jeffie fan are you?

October 15, 2007  09:12 AM ET

Good thing france created the chase to keep someone from running away with the points. God I hate Jeff Gordon!!

October 15, 2007  09:15 AM ET

Thanks Bud

Don't lose heart, oldskool. She hasn't run away with it yet. Maybe she'll break a nail at Martinsville.

We can hope, anyway...

site is cool

I just dont get the Gordon haters to the point of being irrational. I am not a fan but we are watching one of the best drivers ever. I am pretty sure Dale Sr brought the ire of many too.

Sure, Dale Sr. had his critics. I am one of them. He was the roughest, meanest driver in the sport. However, even I RESPECTED him because:

- He didn't BUY his way into racing.
- He didn't cry like a little girl when he got his first win.
- He worked for everything he got, with no help from NASCAR.
- He never EVER whined.

Jeffie can drive, no doubt. But I don't respect him. I don't think that is remotely irrational.

October 15, 2007  10:23 AM ET

Not sure why I am defending him....but his first win was 80 wins ago - get over it. Seems like alot of drivers buy their way now days with rich daddys.

October 15, 2007  10:24 AM ET

gstrdr = I'am not a full fan of Gordon either BUT - this guy DIDN"T
BUY his way into Nascar -- he made his bones from the bottom up
in many types of race cars. You can also check my pictures and
click on the picture of him = = it's a damn OMEN

I think Jr. might have bumped Jeff if he could have caught him quickly!! Jr. was pretty PO'ed... I can't figure out why Jeff did that, Jr. would have gone up high the next turn and Jeff could have gotten by him then!!
