08:58 AM ET 10.26 | If there's another shot for Jamie Moyer, he's doing what he can to be ready for it. He turns 48 years old next month and has worn a major league uniform for a quarter century. He won a World Series ring in 2008 and has earned tens of millions of dollars. He sprained the ulnar collateral ligament and a strained the flexor tendon in his pitching elbow in July and has faced a grueling rehab to make it back. But [Moyer] isn't ready to put his unique playing career to bed just yet. Moyer, who ended the season on the disabled list for the Philadelphia Phillies, is heading to the Dominican Republic to play winter ball.

i gues this guy just doesn't like his wife and kids?

I believe he has a series of road hookers that are financially dependent on him. What else can he do?

He has 8 kids. Try putting 8 kids through college! No wonder he's not retiring!

Jamie Moyer has been my favorite player for a long time, and I love that the guy just refuses to go away. I'll consider next year a success - regardless of what else happens - if he comes back on a camp invitation and beats out Kendrick.

Even better that one of them was drafted this past season. He chose to go to college, but imagine the old man pitching against his kid.

Remarkably this guy can still be effective after all these years. Hopefully he has good health until he wants to hang up the spikes.

He needs to retire and join a softball league!

Probably when he trades them in for a Rascal.

This guy pitched for the Cardinals briefly 20 years ago, and most people thought he was close to being out of baseball back then.

maybe the yanks or texas can use him as a setup man!

He just wants to play and collect his pension at the sametime. All that while being the rep for AARP. Just play in Florida.

The Cardinals actually suggested that he retire. Instead, he fought through the minors for a year.

Jamie Moyer is one of the most decent people on the planet. if he thinks a rehab effort in the Dominican will enable him to stay in the Bigs, i'm all for it. he's forgotten more about baseball than most of the people on this thread will ever know.

I'm with you. Anybody who works that hard deserves every opportunity. He's not asking for favors.

i wonder if his goal is to pitch in bigs at 50. that would be pretty cool if he pulled that off.

He's said multiple times that it's something he'd like to do. Journalists are already drooling about the possibility of making "Age matches the jersey number' joke.
