Will Zook cut Juice loose?

Illinois coach Ron Zook didn't change his mind after watching film of Saturday's loss at Iowa: He's sticking with Juice Williams as his starting quarterback. He's also moving forward with Plan B, the possibility of getting backup Eddie McGee playing time earlier in games, not waiting for Williams to get hurt or make a big mistake.

Zook isn't going to cut Juice loose. Wishful thinking by the Tribune in this story.

October 15, 2007  10:05 AM ET

He just needs to pick his spots with McGee, but Juice isn't getting cut loose

October 15, 2007  10:24 AM ET

I havent seen Ill. play this year, whats the problem with him?

October 15, 2007  10:27 AM ET

Juice tends to get injured a lot xxx84xxx, and McGee has performed well when he comes in.

October 15, 2007  10:42 AM ET

Williams is an exciting, gifted player: a playmaker and leader. Zook would be insane to cut Williams loose. As J. Hova points out, another Tribune attempt to draw attention to a non-story. (Hopefully Williams stays healthy and gets into the pros.)

As a Michigan fan I am very worried about the players Illinois has. Both Juice and the backup are very capable of cuasing major headaches for Michigan because of the style of game they play.

October 15, 2007  10:50 AM ET

I second that Chapmaja.

October 15, 2007  11:31 AM ET

Ahh ok, so he's fine china huh? thats never good
the only way to break the injury bug is too nu.t up and play....

October 15, 2007  12:41 PM ET

No way he is getting benched. I was very impressed with him Saturday.

October 15, 2007  01:04 PM ET

I loved Juice when he started last year, we never really had a good QB since Kitner and Eddie McGee seems to be the better passing quarterback than Juice.....Juice looks like the next michael vick if you ask me....no passing in his game.

October 15, 2007  01:17 PM ET

Word now in the Tribune is that Zook is sticking with Juice. Good move, Ron.

October 15, 2007  02:16 PM ET

All I know is one of them better figure out how to throw downfield. Iowa showed everybody how to defend the rushing attack. Northwestern, Minnesota and Ball State will help get the Illini on track.

October 15, 2007  02:19 PM ET

jucie isnt the one that cost illinois the game againt iowa, he was sitting on the bench when the int happen, who nows what wouldn have happened if he was in the game

October 15, 2007  03:07 PM ET

He needs to play one guy. Two quarterback systems are dumb and they rarely work. Juice is the present and future of Illinois football. He needs as many practice and game reps as he can get without having to look over his shoulder. He has earned that

October 15, 2007  03:17 PM ET

Everything bounced Iowa's way. Illinois played too cute with their running attack; they could have just passed more and they would've won. That program, having coming off two wins over ranked opponents, was just trapped by some loser underachiever at home. It happens all the time.

October 15, 2007  03:24 PM ET

If Michigan's defense doesn't get overly agressive against the option and forces Illinois to throw the ball, then Wolverine fans shouldn't worry too much. Illinois has a gimmicky, one-dimentional offense. As Iowa showed, if you control the clock on offense with long drives, play the field position battle on defense by making them sustain a long drive, and make them pass the ball, then you can beat them.

October 15, 2007  03:35 PM ET

If Juice goes to the pros, it will definitely not be as a QB.

October 15, 2007  04:07 PM ET

Comparing Michigan's D and Iowa's D is apples and oranges. Iowa has a great defense, while Michigan's is mediocre. Michigan should beat Illinois but it's going to make Juice and McGee look pretty good in the process.

October 15, 2007  05:33 PM ET

Juice is a homeless man's Vick. I was at the game against Mizzou when McGee came in and almost won the game for the Illini. They were getting killed before McGee came in, and they ended up losing by six.

October 15, 2007  05:57 PM ET

J. HOVA is correct. Iowa's defense is great. Norm Parker gameplanned perfectly for the "triple option" and shut it down. If Iowa had any kind of Offense it would have ran up and down the field on them. Anyway, I hope you Illinois took pictures of your one week in the Top 25, it's gonna be a while before you are back. And before you respond, I know Iowa isn't in the Top 25 as well. Ron Zook didn't do anything at Florida and won't do anything at Illinois.
